Did the admin not put in a real bid?! Practically the only eastern destination that is not a reasonabe road venue. So pissed for this team!!!

Go Lehigh and stick it to the committee!

Same path as Colgate last year. UNH has issues at QB but what are the odds of them losing a playoff game to a PL team two straight years?

Just blah all the way around. You’re never going to get far in the playoffs by always going on the road.

About 380 miles to UNH. Just under the 400 needed to fly.

Then 280 to JMU. (If UNH wins they get to Fly.

2:00 PM start makes Goodman impossible.

I just don’t believe that Lighting the stadium, Lighting the parking lots that aren’t already lit, and lighting a walkway is prohibitively expensive. Probably <1/4 what the new softball and baseball fields cost.

    Why no home game?
All games start at 1 pm or later. Goodman. No lights.

Can’t say I’m surprised. Lehigh had one crowd over 7000 this year. On Thanksgiving weekend that would be hard to do. Our only chance at hosting was to be matched up with St. Francis. They’re going to Villanova. Us against Nova would have been a rematch

It came down to lights. Without lights Lehigh will never host again or be a seed. They could go 11-0 with a win over Alabama and won’t be seeded because they don’t have lights. The inability to host really puts a damper on the playoffs imo….

Dont see a problem with a noon start. Guessing tho ESPN sets start times.
Lighting access to Stadium has been oft quoted as the deal breaker for cost. Kind of a fake issue. Temporary lighting is relativel cheap and easily accomplished. I have been to HS nite games where school mounted spots on pickup trucks for parking lots and walkways. Worked quite well.

4 years ago, I was with some friends at the first game in Goodman. It got dark and cloudy and one suggested “are they going to turn on the lights? No Lights!?!?”

Another said his son was in the business of putting on events like rock shows, and dealt with gigantic portable lighting system. He called the son and got a quick estimate of $35,000, including parking areas for a one night event. It would seem like a worthwhile experiment to see if it actually increased attendance. Actually 30-40 years ago PennState experimented with rental lights before going that way.

But really we don’t need to experiment. We need lights next year.

I was at the Goose. Maybe some disappointment at not being in Goodman, but not with the opponent. It’s a CAA team we can beat.

Lights or not, I Wonder if we hurt ourselves under-reporting attendance. Home side looked near full for Gate, Fordham and Bucknell, and each of those games had enuff on away side to make up for empties on home side to eclipse 8000. I was at each game, and while it wasn’t crowds of late 90’s or LU-HC ’91, I think they were better than what we reported.

    On to Durham.

Wildcat Stadium just went through a major renovation inlcuding video scoreboard. They have turf and lights.
If we want to host FCS playoff games at Goodman with our throwback facilities we have to put up better bids. Otherwise, we should do the renovations that I keep hearing about. Temporary lights are brought in for all kinds of games today. I’ve even attended high school games where temporary lighting were used and it was fine. Hopefully we get something done before next November because this is a nice problem to have, and we should have it the next couple years.

It comes down to the bid. If we had outbid UNH the start time could easily be at noon. No TV issues. The game is only on ESPN3, the internet. We outbid Hofstra in 2001 and JMU in 2004. I agree, though, that having to always be on the road is a significant hurdle to becoming a true challenger for the FCS title.

A question arises. Did the Committee advise all possible hosts before bids were submitted, that no games would start before 2:00 PM EST? I would not be surprised if everyone was so informed excepting the Patriot League teams.

Is anyone planning on going? I really, really want to but Durham is a damn hike. Especially on the Friday after Thanksgiving. I’m somewhere in the range of 65/35 on biting the bullet and doing it. James Madison is a much easier and pleasant trip should Lehigh win. But, I went to last year’s debacle and they’re loaded again. I’m definitely not going to both games. I’ve never been to UNH….
