Lehigh One of the Youngest Teams In FCS

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

Lehigh One of the Youngest Teams In FCS

I saw this article about McNeese with interest.

https://mcneesesports.com/news/2023/10/ ... wboys.aspx
LAKE CHARLES – Youth is definitely the movement for McNeese Cowboy football this season, even if it wasn't planned to be before the season started.

Recent research conducted by the McNeese Sports Communications staff discovered the Cowboys have the third-youngest team in the FCS according to each school's most recent two-deep offensive and defensive charts listing freshmen and sophomores (true and redshirt).

McNeese's current depth chart lists a total of 28 freshmen and sophomores on the 44-man depth chart, with 13 of those being freshmen.

...

FCS Top 10 Youngest Teams (Fr-Soph/Fr Only)
Charleston Southern (32/13)
Weber State (29/15)
McNeese (28/13)
Idaho (27/13)
Utah Tech (27/11)
Southern Utah (26/11)
Dayton (26/17)
St. Francis (25/15)
Cal Poly (25/12)
Elon (25/12)
Lehigh had 25 first years/sophomores on the depth chart for Bucknell if you count PK Nick Garrido, LS David LaGanga and backup PK Caanan Kimball (not counting duplicates).

Counting just the 44 on offense and defense, without repeating there are 22 first years/sophomores, with 8 true freshman.

That is also probably an undercount of first years since Geoffrey Jamiel was on the depth chart and didn't play. Additionally first year DL Jadin Nelson started in reality.

When you strip the fact that McNeese is also considering redshirt freshman in their counts... Lehigh definitely is in the Top 10 in first years playing.

Bottom line Lehigh definitely is in this area of the Top 10 youngest FCS teams in the nation as they stand right now.

Very interesting.....let's hope that with additional physical development and experience the team sees a significant upturn in performance.

1993 Seniors had taken some lumps until they put it all together. Year 4/5 should be much better than Year 1. Let say we finish with 3 wins this year, continuous improvement of 1 win per year means a competitive Year 4/5 with 7-8 wins or more. This year essentially every position was up for battle. Next year, maybe 2/3, but by Year 3 the lineups will be settled. Then it becomes more of a 2 deep rotation on both offense and defense. This Palmerton kid looks like the real deal. Possibly give him a shot at KR/PR and multiback/QB on special plays. He is elusive and makes big plays. It has hard to look back on Gilmore's 1st year with 4 wins and all the losses essentially by a TD or less and then what it became. I do not think this is the path Cahill will be on. He got this team to respond positively now and he has built trust with these young men. I
