Navy games 3 and 4

Young team returns in 2018-2019 with tons of promise. Can they get back to the NCAA Tournament?

Still in the "just great to even see LU. Bball"phase. Hope for the best. Trying to be realistic as opposed to my usual rabid. :D :D

That’ll teach me to post on Wednesday morning when I thought it’d be LU vs AU (see American – Games 3 and 4 below)! Thanks to Covid-19, it’s now LU vs Navy and I enjoyed the posts to date from Rich and Van. At this late hour, all I might add is :

The quality of the Game Notes both Navy and LU produce. Check ‘em out! Not just a
“good reads” but an excellent ones!

In handicapping this game, realize what many of you may know already …. The fact that Navy is sitting on a 5- and 1 record with W’s over George Washington, Mt. St. Mary’s, Georgetown and Bucknell (2). There only loss was an acceptable setback to Maryland.

KenPom and, I’m sure, most others who follow the sport, rank Navy some 110 to 120 spots above Lehigh among the 357 teams that comprise the world of D-1 b’ball. His forecast/warning to Lehigh is to expect 4 and 9 point losses this weekend.

Like many others, I’m sure, I’m tuning in to EPPN+ this weekend to catch a glimpse of our future more than a “W.” I’ll take the latter, of course, but would be happy to see more quality minutes / results out of what is believe is a promising group of underclassmen. My early favs, and we haven't seen the entire freshmen class, would include Jakob Alamudun (JA), Dominic Parolin (DP), Evan Taylor (ET), and Reed Fenton (RF).

JA: 25.5 mpg, .600 FG%, 6.0 ppg, and 8.5 rpg
DP: 13.0 mpg, .600 FG%, 7.0 ppg, and 2.5 rpg
ET: 23.0 mpg, .300 FG%, 4.5 ppg, and 7.0 rpg
RF: 26.0 mpg, .273 FG5, 4.0 ppg, and 3.5 rpg

I have been most impressed with the progress Alamudun has made. He's become a serious hard to move rebounding threat.

Alamudun and Sinclair. Oh hell, the entire bench showed up. An L but for me a very optimistic showing. We stayed with them the entire game. Inconsistent which I expected.

I couldn't tell if it was warranted but even with the late fouling, it was 25-10 in fouls.

My observations:
1.) Its only one game, but we may have found our PG for the next 4 years. But maybe not. Time will tell.
2.) Started out really sloppy. Turned the ball over a lot. But I thought we moved it pretty well in the 2nd half.
3.) I'm not sure why E. Taylor isn't seeing more minutes. Seems to me that so far, Fenton has not been particularly
productive. I might like to see him as a shooter coming off the bench.
4.) Both Navy and Lehigh each only attempted 10 3s. Carter had 7 of them.
5.) This is and will continue to be a strange season however, in the ealy stages, I've become really optimistic about
the future. Would love to see Lynch and Parolin spend a bit more time on the court together as we saw with
Lynch and Karnik at the end of last season.

not sure about parolin and lynch together, seemed out of sorts the little they were together today, and we really need an upgrade at PG, box score said 16 TO but it seemed like a lot more

What was it about Sinclair's performance today that you didn't like? He had 3 TOs in 27 min but also 5 assists. He scored 14 points on only 7 shots (3-3 from the FL though). If I get that from my PG every game, I'm really happy.

I also think Sinclair might be the answer (still too early for me to anoint him) but my point was who started at PG?
a young team with insufficient time to prepare for the season is just the recipe for inconsistent execution which is what we saw today, a dramatic difference from what Navy did given their obvious advantage in prep time and game experience, coaches have their work cut out for them but they do have talent to work with

eah, an 8 point loss. Sorta what those in know (Mr. Pomeroy and others) may have forecasted. But, I couldn't be more pleased with the way our underclassmen performed - not just the numbers they generated (see below) but the relative ease and comfort shown. For two of the 3 this is just 3 games into their careers! Yeah, I think the future looks bright. Hell, we might even pull off an upset tomorrow down in Annapolis.

# 10 Jalin Sinclair (Freshman) PG to be, if not already
14 points on 5 for 7 shooting in 27 minutes (doubled those times in games 2 and 3)
His first 3 game totals: 16.7mpg, 6.7 ppg, .538fga

#35 Dominic Parolin (Freshman)
6 points on 3 for 3 shooting in 12 minutes, 4 boards and 2 assists
His first 3 game totals: 12.7mpg, 6.7 ppg, .750 fga

#0 Jacob Alamudun (Sophomore)
6 points on 2 for 3 shooting in 11 minutes, 6 boards and 2 assists
His first 3 game totals: 20.7mpg, 5.7ppg, .615 fga

Can't wait to follow the careers of these young men and the good fortunes they're bound to bring to Lehigh.
