Week-End Salvo -Special Early East Coast Edition
Week-End Salvo -Special Early East Coast Edition
Lehigh has a nice team coming back next year with several weights listed as 'open' with plenty of high line talent ranking for starting spots. 133, 141, 165 in particular will have some keen competition. The starters at these weights should be very competitive. The only weight we miss someone is 184 with Weiler gone. All-in-all LU will have a very solid line-up. I suppose the only real question is whether or not Josh Humphreys will defer or not. If he does, the smart money is for Meyer to drop back down to 157 where he would be a force. Ironically, Jordan Wood will have a up-hill battle to reach the AA podium again given the influx of talented newcomers at 285: Schultz ASU, Fernandez Cornell, Kerkvliet PSU and transfer Orndorff tOSU. Hopefully he stays injury-free.
Cornell will be loaded. AA Arujau back at either 125 or 133, 2Xer Yianni back at either 141 or 149, AA Max Dean back at 184 and AA Darmstadt at 197. That's a ton of NCAA points right there....enough for top 5 probably. When you add in true blue chippers like Ramirez at 165, Foca at 174 and Fernandez at 285 who all defeated ranked opponents during their grey shirt year and there's a recipe for a team title run.
Princeton had their shot last year but with Kolodzik gone, the trio of Glory, Monday and Brucki bring them back to earth a little. Still if all are healthy PU is a very potent NCAA team.
It's very reasonable to believe the EIWA could have it's first team champion and 2 other top 10-15 teams. Army and Navy has a couple/few of guys (combined) who might stand on the podium. I'll go out on a limb and predict the EIWA earns low teens in total AAs....say lucky 13.....and another 4-5 R12s.
Older than old-timer trivia: Just found Mepham Invitational results for 1955. Steve Friedman, Oceanside, wins at 157 -- went on to beat Greg Ruth in Easterns for Cornell. Jerry Seckler, VS Central, wins at 148 .... lost to Thad in Eastern finals for PSU. Walter Lanham 3rd from Lindenhurst at 148.....probably Glen Lanham's father -- Glen is current head coach at Duke. Guy Guccioni, Bayshore, won at 136 went on to wrestle for PSU.
Fast-forward to 1960: Rich Warnke wins at 110 for Massapequa....went on to become an AA at Lehigh. Steve Erber, Huntington 2nd at 116 -- went on to wrestle at PSU. Mark Piven, Mepham won at 128 and went on to place 3rd for PSU -- he actually took down Uetake at Nationals that year before being decked. Last but not least Dick Slutsky, Plainedge placed 3rd at 148 before going to Syracuse where he became an AA.
Have a great week end everyone!

>>>>> Lee and maybe Marinelli win titles for Iowa. Yianni and maybe Dean win titles for Cornell. The remaining 8 will be dog fights. All I'm saying (and actually said) was CU has the makings of a "title run." No where did I say they would win....."could be the first EIWA team (*since 1953) to win."drd5748 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 10:37 pm >>When you add in true blue chippers like Ramirez at 165, Foca at 174 and Fernandez at 285 who all defeated ranked opponents during their grey shirt year and there's a recipe for a team title run.

Re: Week-End Salvo -Special Early East Coast Edition
If Cornell wins it all that's it for me.
Re: Week-End Salvo -Special Early East Coast Edition
That's how I feel. Just don't like them and I never will. I wish them nothing but bad luck.
