Of all the great universities, not a single powerhouse wrestling program anymore in California.
Cal Poly-SLO, Cal State-Bakersfield and Cal Baptist left.

That's one big state, with a single tournament, that will be exporting most of their talent to Oregon State and Arizona State now. Maybe Cal Poly or CSU-Bakersfield emerge. Lehigh can dabble to land a top tier wrestler now that there is no Stanford. Time to start looking at juniors who finish Top 3 in California State Tournament.

I'd make a joke about "Does it still fit?" but it's not that old.

Michigan State is also on the radar for CA kids. As previously posted CA is an extremely fertile recruiting state. It becomes academic (no pun intended) trying to get kids all the way east unless it's for an Ivy or Service Academy....especially with so many stopping off places along the way that are Power 5 with $6,000 stipends for the best kids. Lehigh shouldn't waste time in California unnecessarily....don't ignore it just don't have a high expectation. Lehigh has enough elite recruits in PA, NJ, NY and OH to chase....where their families scan comfortably travel to LU to see them compete.

Pretty sure my SAVE SYRACUSE WRESTLING still fits. I last wore it a couple years ago when writing about something related. Can't find it right now, but did find my --- Homeland Security. Fighting Terrorism Since 1492 --- T-shirt

Just sad because coach Steiner had them headed in the right direction. California state school is a potential juggernaut with the right backing.
