Matt wrestled in the Reno World Tournament in August losing to OK stud Zach Blankenship in the SF. He finished 4th, losing in OT with a bad knee.

If you have Flo, you should be able to watch the SF match

I recall the eras when nobody wrestled outside their state in HS.

**** I remember when Nazareth, Northampton and Easton will invite the best from other states to the Lehigh Valley Elite Duals. This was around late 80s or early 90s. Teams from NY, WVA, SC and others would come in and get destroyed. I remember Rob Rohn wrestling for Nazareth, Kerry McCoy wrestling for a Long Island school and a few others. Like Denny said there was a time that high schools very rarely wrestled out of their state.

Of course they did, but they sure as heck don't anymore....so seeing guys like Matt (Matty?) against legit national wrestlers at big tournaments (Super 32, Eastern States, Ironman etc) can be very reflective of future success (although no, not always)....certain schools in Florida are starting to develop into wrestling "hotbeds" but no where near at the level of the old diehards (you can fill in the blanks on that one)........

Would love to see how Matt holds up in a Super 32 or a Ironman, but covid, finances and so on an issue for all young wrestlers.....Like what I see though in limited amount I've actually seen........

To me there is a problem (just one) with prolific pinners in HS, especially those who rarely go an entire first period is how well they perform when the match goes the entire length which they most certainly will in college.

Florida state champs are about equivalent to a PA. district champ.
