The problem is that I never know what to believe. Remember, our guys are the ones who usually move up weight classes. We recruit a 130-lb state champ and project him at 149, before he finishes his career at 165. That's what we're used to.

I didn't expect to see Lane back down at 125 and never thought we'd see Hines at 133. Nothing says they'll be there long. I had the same impression as TMH of Ruth last year in the wrestling room .... looked like he was chiseled out of marble and that was right after certs. So seeing some sources claiming he'd be at 165 puzzled me; which leg does he cut off? He's taller than Logan by a good deal, so Jake at 174 and ER at 184 sounds like a good plan going forward.

What I've heard recently -- we won't see Paetzell at 125 again; Moran injured; Humph injured and out for the year.

Based on Pitt having its full lineup ready for us and what we've heard about their ability to prep for the season, I think most of our guys showed a lot. Hines, McGonagle, Lawrence, Logan, and Davis all wrestled their first varsity matches and did well. Lawrence got in deep on #9 Wentzel three times; McGill was a recruit about as good as Logan. I liked seeing true freshmen Herceg and Wright win in the extra bouts in their first action.

It's gonna be a weird season. Early signs are that Binghamton and Bucknell may be tough. The problem is that we're basing everything on a couple of bouts so far. Hofstra's had nine guys with Covid, not counting the kid with the (apparent) false positive two weeks ago. That's probably typical for the sport this year. My guess is that a wrestler curiously not mentioned much has had, or has, Covid and is still recovering. Most guys need to be healthy and working out in order to come close to making weight. Recover, then return to practice, then concentrate on getting weight off, in that order. It will all work out in the end. And if it does not, then it is not the end.

Guessing you mean Meyer? I have assumed he's trying to get down to cert at 157......he was a very game but not big enough 165....but obviously there could be other reasons as this is all guesswork.........

I'm not referring to anyone specifically -- any guy who is conspicuous by the absence of mention might be dealing with Covid, IMO.

Assuming the teams go with their probable starters, it should be close. LU favored at 125, 133, 149, 197. Navy favored at 141, 157, 165, 184, and Big Boys. 174 pretty much a toss-up.

Interesting bout between Koser and Jakobsen last season. Koser almost pinned Jakobsen, then Jakobsen almost pinned Koser. Koser won 6-5. Nevertheless, wrestlestat favors Jakobsen narrowly.

Interesting in that Jakobsen might be the only LU guy to wrestle this year from match last year. How often does that happen?

Good point; gotta be pretty rare.

Don't underestimate Koser; last year he had wins over Jake, Drew Phipps, Bryan McLaughlin, and JT Brown.
