Edmundson with a 10-0 win over Noah Frack, who was a 2 time state place winner His next match vs Levi Haines wil be a real challenge,

Loses major

Haines lost 2 matches last year at 120, on the first day, then did the rest of the Season at 126.

Haines other three career losses were to Sheldon Seymour in the state finals, and to Crookhame in the regional and state finals last year

Frick had finished 4th, Terry 6th at 167 two years earlier. 17 returning points. Hard to jump from that to 100, regardless of how good the team looked at EIWAs.
That didn't seem to stop Mike Lieberman :-)

It probably did hurt Mark L and Pat S. They both drew against the alternate seeds, 9-10, in the first round, Easing in with a slouch might helped, but DRD did not tell Pat + Mark their guys were good. the odds of those draws were pretty slim

Kind of an odd question but did Mike Land have a losing record against Lehigh wrestlers?

I believe 3 of his 13 losses in college came against a Lehigh wrestler.

Edmundsens nextmatch against K Crawford of Milton. Presume the son of 4 time state champ in the 80s Ken, who had a less than stellar career at Buck then Clarion

Edmondsen blows Crawford out in 3rd period. The second period was a titanic Merkle vs Peterson struggle. Like Giant octopus vs super Tornado, Locks up trip to state,

Zac Martin one in quarters

#13 ranked Lax beat #10 Loyola.

Yes. Land went 2-3 against Lehigh wrestlers -- wins over Doug Hetrick and Burley, losses to Leonhardt (2) and Burley.

Thanks due to the Database of Jay Hammond '66, the gift that keeps giving.

Mike had what was probably the most beneficial redshirt year in history. He missed his seed in both EIWA tournaments in 1972 and '73, didn't qualify for NCAAs either year, looked particularly bad against Penn State's Dan Brenneman (I believe in one case he had a lead with seconds left, then tripped over his own feet during Brenneman's desperation lunge and was taken down), then sat out for a year.

He returned to action at a time when everyone was excited about his brother's first year. I remember a pre-season exchange where one fan was describing Mark's achievements and how he'd be as good as Mike Frick (not yet an NCAA champ, remember). Another fan said that Mike L was back, too -- and the first fan replied "So what? He'll still choke." The 1975 NCAA tournament was a little odd -- all ten champions were first-timers -- and many of the weights were thought to be wide open. After EIWAs Mike insisted that he was going to win 177 at NCAAs, and I'm probably not the only one who wondered what he was smoking. Mike was seeded 3rd and the two highest seeds in his half of the bracket lost early, so the highest-ranked guy he beat on his way to the finals was Bill Shuffstall. There was no avoiding top seed Chris Campbell, but Mike learned from their dual bout not to dive for Chris's legs; he was countered twice by Campbell in the dual meet. The move that won the finals bout was a quick duck-under that Campbell never saw coming.

Mike proved wrong everyone who doubted him. I'd still like to know what he did during that year off.
