Recruits
Re: Recruits
Iowa won with 102 points; Lehigh was 5th with 54. We weren't close. We had a better chance of winning in 1976, if only the Liebermans had stayed healthy, Sculley had stayed eligible, Newbern and Willard didn't wreck their knees, etc., etc. If only.
When you're within 15 points of the team champion, you're close. Everything else is "if only".
After Sloand's career-ending injury against Cal Poly he finished 1st and 3rd at EIWAs, placed at NCAAs, and beat the #1 seed from Iowa at NCAAs before forfeiting out with a knee injury.

Re: Recruits
Nathan Taylor into semi’s where he wrestles an opponent he has pinned both times he wrestled him this year....
Re: Recruits
Morlacci lost in the consi semis to Collin McCorkle of North Allegheny UTB for 3rd. Unfortunately, PIAA set up the West AAA Super Regional 3 for SW Reg(d7); 3 for SC Reg(d3); 2 for NWC. Where as the East AAA Super reg is 4 for for SE(d1) and 4 for NE-Philadelphia (with the Phila public league not competing, sort of.) I think 2/3 of the top 10 AAA are in the west super-reg
Re: Recruits
Obviously I Meant Sloand Had a season ending early, Certainly he had a better chance of scoring at nationals then Marty Lynn, although I don't think he beats George Bryantjdalu75 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 11:53 am Iowa won with 102 points; Lehigh was 5th with 54. Other than Chris Campbell losing to Mike L Iowa wrestled way over expected. Bowlsby and Stevens scored like 35 points from Unseeded. Hell even Steve Hunte won a championship bout.
Whereas Mark L and P Scully were expected like 20 by Seeding and more by the B&W faithful. No one expected us to do so poorly, especially with at least 1/3 of the fans in Jadwin. Pat S was 4th seed, Randall of OkSU was #1. Thursday morning it was thought a PS win in that Semi would give us a real shot at the Tournament
Re: Recruits
Bobby Sloand was so much fun to watch. No 2-1 bouts when he was on the mat.
That injury against Cal-Poly was painful to watch. Wasn't Pascal Perri the ref for that?

Re: Recruits
#2 Nathan Taylor is in the SF with a 1st period pin. He faces the #6 seed.
Re: Recruits
One problem with the 1975 EIWA team is that only three of the nine qualifiers -- Frick, McCorkel, and DeStito -- had ever been to NCAAs before. Frick had finished 4th, Terry 6th at 167 two years earlier. 17 returning points. Hard to jump from that to 100, regardless of how good the team looked at EIWAs.

Re: Recruits
Yes. He defended the lack of a potentially dangerous call by noting that Sloand's shoulder was heavily wrapped for that match, so who knew when he was injured?
