Lehigh 21-22
Lehigh 21-22
Next year is going to be like re-opening the economy. There is so much pent up demand and so much eagerness to go out, travel, shop and spend...just a matter of time. Same will be true for our team. After a year a absolute horse hockey, the guys will be rarin to go. And we have plenty of talent that's for sure.
125: Lane 2-2 at nationals....poised to break out if he can develop a little more from neutral.
133: Hines 2-2 as well....also ready to make his mark
[a potent 1-2 punch at the top of the line-up -- best since Cruz-Parker]
141: McGonagle 0-2 at nationals....in my view conditioning was his issue, that and lacking confidence (1st year)
149: Hoffman 0-2 at nationals....he seemed injured all year. Not sure who else might be available but someone with horse would be preferrable -- Maybe Bryant?
157: Humphreys back and will be ranked top 10 to open the season....former R12 as a true frosh
165: Meyer 0-2- at nationals....Thane Lawrence steps in as the starter
174: Logan 1-2 at nationals....improvement since the debacle Army dual has been remarkable. A work in progress
184: [new starter] will it be Edmond Ruth? If so, I hope he's been lifting -- the competition are animals
197: Does Jake come back for a grad year since this year "didn't count?" Would be nice
285: Wood 2-2 at nationals....disappointing by his standards but no room for error. With an uninterrupted year, he will be strong AA candidate
This is a solid, if not spectacular, line-up....and developing.
Help (Crookham and Casale) is on the way but not for another year.

Re: Lehigh 21-22
Also, if healthy, Dan Moran was expected to Start this past season, Record is similar to Pomrinca. So possible at 141 or 149.
So prime questions boil down to"
Will Jake V, and Paetzell Return, Brandon is of course also which weight
Will Humphreys, Hoffman, and Moran be healthy?
Will Ruth be a ready to go 184 pounder>

Re: Lehigh 21-22
The wild card in this lineup may be Paetzell. I'm pretty sure he is still planning on returning but at what weight?
Then again, will Lane and Hines be able to maintain their weight for another year when I think everyone here was surprised that they got to those weights this year. If not, will McGonigle go back down to 133 where I think he best fits? Could Moran come back ready to take over 141? The coaches are really high on Bryant. If he holds 149, expect a battle there. A healthy Lawrence will be a real tough challenge for Meyers @ 165. I think Davis showed real promise at 184 until injuries did him in. Again, I don't know how tough the cut is. I think he wrestled heavier than that in HS.
We thought this year's lineup was pretty much settled at this time last year and look what happened. Next year, I see only only 157 and HWT as locks. Speculation though is the fun part about being a fan. I hope they come back really, really hungry because there will be very few guarantees.

Re: Lehigh 21-22
Zero inside info, but sometimes a year off for injury (knee?) causes guy to go up a weight. Hopefully not for Josh. OK I will admit I want A happy Thayne L, because his brother certainly has the look of first Team HS senior.
Re: Lehigh 21-22
Anything can happen, but Josh's injury happened over the summer, I believe so he may be active already. By all accounts, he is a gym rat and they burn off a lot of calories. I'm actually wondering how having Humphreys as a workout partner this fall will impact Lawrence's wrestling growth curve.

Re: Lehigh 21-22
I thought it was foregone that Humphrey was going to 165.
Re: Lehigh 21-22
Are you sure about that? I had heard November (but I can't remember my source).
I'm going to assume that 5th-year seniors will be getting on with their careers unless we hear otherwise. I've heard that Paetzell and Wood will be back next year; have not heard the same about Jake but it would be nice. Lobeck, Cornish, and Ammerman are all r/s seniors.
So assuming everyone else comes back, here's what my pre-pre-pre-season depth chart looks like (and I agree, who knows where some guys will weigh in when it matters?) --
125: Lane, Seymour, Bailey
133: Paetzell, Polito, Abe, Rodriguez
141: Hines, McGonagle, Munch, Storm, Moran, Herring
149: Bryant IV, Hoffman, Watkins, Edmondson, Martin, Brignola
157: Humphreys, Frinzi, Burkhart, Haubert, Cooley, Sung
165: Lawrence, Meyer, Kilrain
174: Logan, Herceg
184: Ruth, Davis, Wright, Grape, Wilt (160 a year ago, 195 now, 184 is a guess)
197: Shedleski
285: Wood, Lacombe, Jones, Moore, Chakif, Taylor
Our three 2022-23 recruits are IM #2 Ryan Crookham, 141/149; Enzo ("The Ferrari Baker") Morlacci, 157; and IM #19 PJ Casale, 285.
There are a lot of guys in the transfer portal from schools with good academic reputations; we may be in on some of those guys. I think Tanner Harvey for one year at 184 is a good fit. If Andrew Wert (Army) is a career 133, he's got three years remaining. Kizhan Clarke for one year at 149? Maybe. Support's got to come from somewhere, so dig deep, my friends with money.

Could be. But Humphreys will probably be back at 157.Asa Packer wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 12:02 pm I thought it was foregone that Humphrey was going to 165.

Re: Lehigh 21-22
Need a 197 - badly. Wonder if Jones can get back down. Thought he did ok as a (undersized?) 285 this season.
Re: Lehigh 21-22
Personally I wouldn't bother too much with the portal unless there is a substantial improvement over what we already have. That would limit it to 184 or 197 or an absolute stud from Stanford . I would far rther develop some very good talent already here.
I don't see a HWT coming down to 197 (but who knows). Strength and Conditioning however has a way of putting additional muscle mass on football players. Davis looks he may have a frame to build on and with his injury, holding 184 may be more difficult anyway.
