Lehigh at U20 and U23 World Team Trials

Post by Spisula » Thu Jun 02, 2022 6:57 pm

I just saw today the list of entrants for U20 and U23 World Team Trials that start tomorrow. Several Lehigh guys (rostered, commit, and LVWC) are registered. I think I have seen discussions on the board suggesting that Lehigh should focus on strength training rather than off-season freestyle events, but here we are. If nothing else, it exposes our guys to other highly ranked kids they might not see during the folkstyle season, and emphasizes takedowns, which is something some of our guys (generally, in my opinion) need to get better or more aggressive at. Other thoughts?

Here is who I saw registered:

U20
57 Kg:Sheldon Seymour
61 Kg: Carter Bailey
86 Kg: Caden Rogers (=189.6 lbs – smallish for 197; ultimately shooting for 184?)

U23
61 Kg: Mitch Polito (LVWC – not on our 2021-22 roster)
Connor McGonagle
70 Kg: Drew Munch
Max Brignola
Zach Martin
74 Kg: Patrick Edmonston
79 Kg: Thayne Lawrence (appears ready to go for 174 lbs as suggested by others)
Connor Herceg
Sean Kilrain
86 Kg: AJ Burkhart
92 Kg: Jack Davis (LVWC – not quite sure who this is)
125Kg: Nathan Taylor
TJ Moore
Karam Chakif

Jack Davis = JT?

Ok, what is AJ Burkhardt's first name?
JT Cooley's?
TJ Moore's?
Off season questions, indeed.

Surprised to see Seymour wrestling. He tore his ACL at Easterns. That's a pretty quick turnaround.

Austin as in DON'T CALL ME AUSTIN!

Jack Davis wrestled for Sem Class of 18 (No relation to Jack Davis)
But I would assume this is JT given the weight as the other Jack Davis was much smaller.

Yes, after looking at it, Jack Davis is probably JT

.... No need to exaggerate his injury, which wasn't torn - and wasn't his ACL. I reported here that he told me on Apr 1 that it was the kind of knee injury requiring a 3-mo rebound.

Nice to see Lawrence in the mix & McGonagle as well as he needs the takedown training IMO as well as strength increase for next season or he loses his spot in the lineup.

And McGonagle is at 61Kg = 134.5 lbs, so maybe moving down in weight for the upcoming season?
Looks like Manzona also entered at 74 Kg.
