Some of the mega-donors have been part of the problem. Its a subject for another board but look at who chose Simon. It doesn't help the school if a few wealthy people that donate have some really bad ideas about its direction and wield that influence.

>>>How did Villanova get ahead?

Shrinking enrollment tends to help
in 2018 full-time ugrad enrollment was 8,185
total undergraduate enrollment of 7,032 (fall 2021)

Wow, it’s grown. In 2002, we were under 6k undergrad.

I’m guessing the large spikes are attributed to a new college (of health) and they needed to fill it. If so, enrollment will probably continue to settle a bit.

Those were Villanova numbers.
We've grown a couple hundred recently but that's it.

Did Nova increase Grad School numbers as they decreased undergrad?

One would guess that if LU decreased the numbers of Arts, and Business students, average SAT's would increase.

I wonder if Carnegie Techs average SAT's Decreased when they combined with Melon. Same with Case Tech and Western Reserve.

Not that I am advising getting rid of majors. --- I wish we coulkd steal the association of St Lukes from Temple because Asa PAcker founded both, somethin I only learned two years ago.

I don’t think dropping business or any of A&S programs accomplishes anything. Not reducing the number of those students.

You need faculty doing quality research and publishing. You need to admit the brightest students and incentive more of them apply.

You can have good or bad faculty and students in any program at any school. The idea Lehigh must limit itself to one area doesn’t hold up. Too many counter examples to be a plausible solution.

One glaring problem when I was attending was that we couldn’t keep top-notch faculty. They hired some which came out of the best schools in their fields, publishing and showing promise. They stuck around for a few years and left.

Why? Whatever that cause is needs to be addressed.

A whole lotta generalizations going on here; I wonder based on how much specific knowledge.

The two leading reasons for leaving are lack of tenure earned, and more money

It is money in Business School. A finance professor at Top 10 Finance Department can command over $500k per year and the stars over $1 million per year. Lehigh pays Full Professors less than a starting Assistant Professor at MIT for Finance. Yes, the best who publish, Lehigh is a stepping stone. For others, they don't make tenure. I have seen a downgrade in the schools of recent Assistant Professors in past 10 years and remarkably in my lifetime.

How much specific knowledge do you have or are you making generalizations?
