due to 3 pt TDs:

A: How much more needed for a Major? 0? 1? 2?

B: How much more for a Tech 0? 2? 4/5?

C: If a tech Fall ends in less than 7 Minutes. Should the results for a winning wrestler include 1 more point if he has guaranteed riding time?

D: If a tech Fall ends in less than 7 Minutes. Should the results for a winning wrestler include 1 more point if he has 1 minute riding time advantage?

Obviously The latter 2 questions are only relevant in dual tie breakers.

My answers would probably be A-1 B-2 C-yes 3-no

@Gimp, does an "amf" Fall get more team points than a pin?

;)

Thank you for all of your insight and knowledge. It means a lot and you help a lot of people better enjoy the sport.

My goal is that there should be more falls, and more work for falls and not just exposure for points. They're near fall points, not back points. In order to make more falls, it's necessary to make falls worth more. So --

A) N/A -- eliminate the major decision.

B) N/A -- make the tech fall worth four team points. I guarantee that there will be more falls, still worth six.

C) and D) -- they get a point in both cases. All tech falls are thus treated the same way, the RT point is awarded if a wrestler has more than one minute when the match ends (even if it's the losing wrestler, which I think we saw recently). Hey, we're taking away the right of the losing wrestler to fight back -- is he really going to be insulted further if he gives up an additional point? It actually makes more sense not to award the point when the TF goes the full 7 -- at least in that case the losing wrestler went the distance.

The reason to treat all tech falls the same way, as you say, is that match points are a tiebreaker in dual meets. I think the RT point is treated incorrectly in a significant number of TFs, probably because the scorers aren't fully aware of the rule.

Personally, I like leaving things at 8 and 15 points with the 3 point takedown. Obviously there will be more bonus bouts, and imho that is a good thing. Nothing wrong with rewarding a wrestler with an extra team point when they win 10-2 vs 3-2. I love the extra bonus points. Bring ‘em on!

Takedown and release is a bore.
Decision: 3 team points
Major decision: 4 " "
Tech fall: 4 1/2 " "
Fall: 6 " "

Whiz:

15 points for fall
11 TF
9 MD
7 Dec 2-7-(or 2-8 or 2-9) margin
5 SD(small dec) 1 point margin
3 in OT Including a default (or DQ not conduct)
1 RT less than 1 minute (in HS it would be 1 in UTB)

Odd number of weights

Meet Penalties 2 points

No tie in a Meet unless a double FFT (a null bout) (or Double DQ or Double simultaneous Default)

More falls and TFs than most of PSU's lineup has bouts.

Wouldn't an amf fall actually be a bowling pin?

Do you mean a med forf? Same as a regular fall.

I like the old rule on techs where you don’t get 5 team points unless there’s a NF scored. Majors at 8, techs at 15

For a few years we had superior decisions (now majors) at 8 points and super-superior decisions at 12. It didn't work because the margin between the two was too small. With the three-point TD the margin between majors and TFs is too small.

Looking at Boomer's database (this is a part that doesn't show on the website, sorry) Lehigh's non-deferring wrestlers have 346 bouts this season, with 206 wins, 31 falls, 45 TFs, and 35 MDs. More tech falls than majors? Seems like the harder it is to achieve a result, the fewer there should be. So there should be more majors than TFs and more TFs than pins. In every year but this one there have been more majors than TFs. Most years the ratio is 2:1 to 3:1. Last year it was under 2:1, for the first time.

Tech falls are now too easy. Lower the value. A wrestler can achieve a major with one move -- TD, 4NF, RT. That's surely not what was intended. Eliminate the MD.
