Oklahoma State Dual
Re: Oklahoma State Dual
Had Smith put his boy it at 174 he likely would have done no worse than lost by regular decision and OSU would have won the dual. Having made the trip, he's presumed to have been fit to wrestle, right? Or maybe by that time Smith, not contemplating the possibility of big points from Montalvo, thought he had lost the dual.
Re: Oklahoma State Dual
Apparently, they (OSU people) call him Fat Joe! He just barely made 184+1. Re: Oklahoma State Dual
Wasn't he introduced as a possible participant at both 174 and 184 during the introductions?gimpeltf wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 8:10 amApparently, they (OSU people) call him Fat Joe! In any event, I find it equally odd that he didn't go at 184 instead of Montalvo - not that it would have made any difference as things turned out.
Re: Oklahoma State Dual
I used to believe that most baseball games were lost, not won. Maybe we file this match in that drawer. It's telling that we would have won the match under the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th tie-break criteria, the Cowboys under none.
Oklahoma State was hit pretty hard by graduation. They showed up with no 141-pounder and two 149-pounders, no HWT, pushed a 157-pounder up to 174, and wrestled with only half their Wits. They're still paying for their (by their high standards) near collapse two years ago. Their handful of stars wasn't enough to overcome that. This isn't the only dual they'll lose this year.

OSU's Wittlake is from the small town of Coos Bay, Oregon. Without looking it up, who can name another great athlete (and unique personality) from that town?
Re: Oklahoma State Dual
Possibly, but they also introduced someone (Wittcraft?) at 133 and he wasn't wrestling either.whiz wit wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 8:12 amWasn't he introduced as a possible participant at both 174 and 184 during the introductions?gimpeltf wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2019 8:10 amApparently, they (OSU people) call him Fat Joe! Re: Oklahoma State Dual
I can’t get over how badly gassed Chris was, with Jake and Jordan W not far behind (it was mentioned Jordan was recovering from a cold/flu). Weiler might just be the best athlete on the team, but if yesterday was any indication of his conditioning, he shouldn’t be out there on the mat. I kept thinking that there has to be something very wrong with him physically (I certainly hope not).
On the plus side, there were some strong efforts. Ryan P. has a real motor, and is a tough kid. Humphreys - what can you say? He is the real deal. Manhandled a kid he lost to last year. Looked great on his feet, and is just a beast on top. Kutler looked strong and healthy against an overmatched opponent. Paetzell always gives 100% and looked pretty good against one of the strongest and best 125lbers in the country.
Very strange wrestling match with some great positives and some very real negatives.

Re: Oklahoma State Dual
Joe S was first introduced at 174, stepped on the mat, then immediately off to return at 184. Obviously announcer worked off the program, not the weighin sheet, Was little Wit announced? No one near me noticed OtSU was without 133, admittedly I was somewhat following the football game, I assume the coaches decided to start at 141 so as to not interrupt the mat flow, I was even thinking, "why are we forfeiting, we only have 5 133 pounders".
Had Joe S come out at 184 Pat and Chris may have had a different strategy, Don't get bonused, or not worse than a major.
Anyone else ever get out of a cradle and into a mirkle so effectively as Montalvo?
