In eastern PA Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield merge. Probably means the loss of a D1 wrestling program.

In western PA California, Edinboro, and Clarion merge. Prob means loss of another D1 program.

There were rumors about schools being closed back then. Looks like he didn't wait for it to be official.

Tim Flynn did a terrific job at Edinboro. I remember seeing him wrestle in the MD state tournament in the early '80-s for Annapolis HS. Followed him ever since. High quality guy.

That said, West Virginia *should be* a much better job. Better resources, Power 5 conference so can offer up to $6,000 stipend, situated near WPIAL and Ohio for recruiting. Competing in the Big 12 -- that conference has a bunch of tough teams - not too big an academic hurdle to be admitted. So yeah, I think Flynn probably got wind of it thru Baumgartner and left while his market value was still high. Smart. The only problem is he's getting up there in age. While Sammy Henson may not have been the answer, WVU needs a good young coach like Kolat to take over when the time is right. There will be no shortage of candidates.

Baumgartner also just retired.

If Kolat does a good job at Navy, I doubt he'd leave.

Kolat's 47 years old. Not sure he's considered a good "young" coach anymore.

Kevin Dresser signed a 6-yr deal with Iowa St around age 57.

Va Tech isn't Navy. Perhaps if LHU opened up Kolat might consider but a job at Navy is hard to leave for somewhere else.
