Breakdancing at '24 Games
Breakdancing at '24 Games
Breakdancing became an official Olympic sport on Monday. Also confirmed for Paris by the IOC executive board were skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing.
Two sports with troubled governing bodies - weightlifting and wrestling - saw the biggest cuts to the number of athletes they can have in Paris. Both sports could be dropped entirely due to historic doping problems.

Re: Breakdancing at '24 Games
Other than the guy Slay origianally lost to, how many medals taken away for doping.
Re: Breakdancing at '24 Games
Most recently Daton Fix, Zahid Valencia, Jordan Oliver, were busted. Doping and wrestling go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Re: Breakdancing at '24 Games
So weightlifting, with only mens nd womens, Not Mens Free, mens greco, Womens Free. 2/3 the events, has ~4 times the DQs as wrestling, But
Athletics 48 event. 50 DQs, Wrestling 18 events, 13 DQ. (but Athletics only has world championships in Odd Numbered years, save pandemic situations.
Sounds like Olympics is again trying to Fork With Wrestling.
----
I thought Surfing was going to be included in Tokyo?

There are strange things I have seen discussed for the Olympics, like Their is an event that looks to be team whitewater combat. (OK it is more like when they added short track speed skating to long track

Re: Breakdancing at '24 Games
I've lost all interest in the Olympics. It's become strictly an entertainment variety show. So many events are not sport. Many do require great athletic skill, but they are not 'sports'. Any thing that is adjudged by opinion as opposed to an objectively earned score, i.e. goal, time, measurement, etc., is not a 'sport'. It is simply athletic entertainment.
Re: Breakdancing at '24 Games
I lost a lot of interest in the Olympics when ABC adopted the "up close and personal" approach years ago. Up until then it was an athletics meet; after that it became a media event. I understand that sports evolve so there are new sports of interest and old sports that ought to be allowed to pass into history (is anyone interested in hammer-throwing anymore?). But I kind of draw the line at rhythmic gymnastics, curling, and breakdancing. When video gaming becomes an Olympic sport we ought to just shut it all down. It hasn't been about sport for a long time.
