The 2021 "Who will be the starter" Sweepstakes

Post by whiz wit » Fri Dec 25, 2020 11:20 am

If it's true, as written in the Morning Call article linked above, that there will be multiple bouts at some weights against Hofstra, deducing the LU starter may be a little complicated. But working on the assumption that the top LU kid will be matched against the top Hofstra kid, I've looked at Wrestlestat's profiles of the Hofstra roster as well as the results of their recent wrestle-offs, and it appears that the only seriously internally contested weight for Hofstra will be at 133. If it turns out that there's more than one bout at 133 and it isn't fairly clear to me which involves the top kids, i.e. the starters, then if you've guessed any LU wrestler at that weight who might be considered the starter, you will get a point for a correct answer. Got that?

So only pick one LU kid per weight class and you get one point for each correct pick. Entries are due by 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, 2/28. In the event of a tie, the earliest posted submission wins. So you're taking a chance by waiting for more pertinent information to become available. Contest not open to anyone with inside information. Hoping Wally, as he did last year, might mention the winner in his newsletter.

Here's the link to the article: https://www.mcall.com/sports/college/mc ... story.html

I had heard months ago that Josh's redshirt year was planned, so either the knee injury came after the season ended or else he had been dealing with a problem and took this year to have it taken care of. Either way, sounds like there's no chance of his competing this season.

My inside information is that the EIWA tournament will be a one-day affair on Feb 26th, and that the Spooky Nook site is not yet locked down. But that's about 10 days old by now, so things could have changed.

I agree with someone else that if EIWA is held, it should be at West Point or Annapolis, (except for no Overnight restrictions)

Both schools had the opportunity to volunteer to host. Neither offered.

I thought Wood was taking a red shirt this year for the Olympics?

Well, this contest is going over about as well as syphilis in a monastery. Even Legger's not to be counted. This isn't a test of your intelligence, knowledge or problem solving ability, you know. More like guessing the number of jelly beans in the big jar. You still have until 6 p.m. Eastern Time tomorrow to lay it out.
