Post by gimpeltf » Thu Jan 21, 2021 7:03 pm

We'll be doing radio both weekends- although not for Army as there's Bball at same time.

Bing- 1 mat with some extra matches afterwards.
Army/UNC 2 mats. Main dual on one extras on the other.

Binghamton up on Army through 174 --

https://goarmywestpoint.com/watch/?Live=2323&type=Live

Binghamton wins 23-10. The only real upset was at 285, where 184 backup Corey Day (probably giving away 40 pounds) majored Ben Sullivan 10-2. Sullivan with the only TD, Day with two 4NFs.

..... and Binghamton defeats Army 23-10.

Caught the last couple bouts on video and B's heavyweight - who looked outweighed by at least 50 pounds - put and held Big Ben Sullivan on has back twice and majored him.

With so few bouts wrestled it's hard to draw a bead on who's good. I suspect Binghamton is much improved. Freshman Micah Roes is 3-0 at 125; so is junior Anthony Sobotker (transfer from Nassau CC, where he was 61-9 in two years) at 133. Trampe has moved up to 141; he's -- wait for it! -- 3-0. Zarif at 149 is a junior; he's got two 1-point wins and an OT loss. Barker's a two year starter who just wrestled his first bout this year. At 165 Brevin Cassella is a 3-0 freshman. Jacob Nolan started as a freshman last year, he's either 2-0 or 3-0 this year (still waiting to clear up one bout). Lou DePrez is Top 5; brother Sam, who was thrown in as a true freshman last year, looks a little better now. Ranked 285 Joe Doyle hasn't competed yet; Corey Day has moved up and we saw the result today.

Army looks like the more unsettled team. Looks like Ryan Chauvin has inherited 125; 133 Andrew Wert is no longer on the team, so it looks like plebe Mark Montgomery may be their best. Last year's 141, Corey Shie, has moved up to 149. Last year's 149, PJ Ogunsanya, is shown on the roster at 141 but he hasn't wrestled there yet. In the meantime soph Logan Brown, 18-12 a year ago, is holding down 141. Junior Markus Hartman, 157, is their best wrestler. Beau Guffey, highly touted a few years ago, is finally starting, at 165. Brad Laughlin, at 174, looked good his first two years. The shocker is that Taylor Brown, who competed at 141 through 157 his first two years, wrestled at 184 today and didn't look small. He won his first two bouts before losing to Louie today. JT Brown was 4th at EIWAs last year at 197 and is 3-0 now; much of Army's depth at 197 has graduated. Sullivan was the best of their seven 285s last year but he injured a knee at EIWAs and wrestled today with a large knee brace. Looks like anyone with long legs who can ride has a shot at beating him. Army's best team probably comes out of the guys mentioned here.

The 197-pounders weren't friends. Looked to me like they almost came to blows at one point.
