On to the Mountaineers.....

Post by jimk72 » Sat Dec 29, 2018 7:14 am

Just to get this game thread started......

My wife and I had planned to make the jaunt to Morgantown, 4-1/2 hours from Allentown. Then I went to get tickets. The arena is sold out except for nose bleed seats. Stub Hub has tickets available in the lower bowl but they start at big $$$. And then I later discovered an issue with the new vehicle so we ain't goin'...... These have to be season ticket holders to sell this game that well? It will be interesting to see how many actually show up.

The game was originally listed for ESPN+ early on, but now no TV?

Pomeroy has the game at 85-73 WVA. ESPN has WVA with 86.2% chance of winning.

Could we steal this one?

LU Game Notes

https://static.lehighsports.com/customp ... 744.154602

How Pomeroy See It

LU (7-3) Ranked 143rd
@
WVA (7-4) Ranked 49th
WVA wins by 12 (85-73)

Story Behind W. Va's Most Recent Win over Jacksonville State

In that game, the Mountaineers shot 50% from 3 (sound familiar?) and did it without their starting Center who should be out tomorrow.

It’s a wrap!

This will complete OOC play. Already at home, awaiting PL play to begin on Wednesday, are: LC, Army, BU and Bucky. Those in action, besides us, this weekend include: LOY @ NC State (NC State by 26), AU @ George Washington (AU by 1), CU @ Pitt (Pitt by 9), HC @ Iona (Iona by 1), and Navy @ Cornell (Cornell by 7).
Barring any upsets this weekend, I would imagine the closing Pomeroy Rankings at the conclusion of play on Sunday would look as they do today with Bucky making the greatest strides upward (+51) and Army tumbling the furthest (-51) from their respective Day 1 national rankings.

Team….Day 1….Today….Change

Bucky….202….151….+51
CU…....204….155….+49
HC…....207….161….+46
LU…....186….143….+43
BU…....235….211….+24
LOM…..298….294....+4
AU…....224….203….-21
LC…....289….319….-30
Navy….273….322….-49
Army….226….277….-51

Surprise – Surprise: Today’s standings pretty much mirror the League Pre-Season Coaches Poll rankings which showed Lehigh on top, followed closely by Bucknell and Colgate. It promises to be quite a year!

Final 78-68. One hell of a game. Close until last 4-5 minutes. A good bit of house ref calls at the start of 2nd half. 1st 6-9 minutes called a 12 or so on us. A very impressive game and one we actually had a damn good shot at a W. On to the PL.

Sound the alarm. We CAN NOT get out-rebounded 25 to 52 (3 to 22 on the offensive glass) and give our opponrnt 10 additional FG attempts (65 for WVA and 55 for LU) and hope to win. Throw in 8 Turnovers and the 4 pt. combined output of our 5's and I'd say we were lucky to keep the loss at a 10 pt. differential.

Wednesday night and Lafayette can't get here quick enough.

Doc agrees. Postgame he highlighted rebounding and not finishing inside. Note both 5s in foul trouble.
Do recall some years back saying rebound deficit not as important to him as was our shooting percentage. Interesting.

Pretty impressive offensive display. Only 8 turnovers against West Virginia and shot 44% including 43% from 3? That's tremendous and beat West Virginia in all three of those categories. The problem, as 65 called out, is the rebounding. Outshooting your opponent and having fewer turnovers doesn't matter when the other guys get an extra 10 shots (not including FTs). Giving up 50% of available offensive rebounds? Doesn't work. Would love to see the winning % over the last 10 years of teams giving up 50% of available o boards - can't be good.

I didn't see the game, just reading the stats. Our bigs didn't finish, mainly because they didn't take any shots! JK was 1 for 3 in 25 minutes, and NL didn't shoot at all in 11 minutes!?!???

Upon further review I did notice that big Nic also fouled out in 11 minutes. That tends to limit shooting.
