#22/25 Richmond

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

LEHIGH RICHMOND

3rd. Down Conv. 2 of 11 10 of 16

This stat is a killer....poor tackling and missing key defensive stops.

I drove up and saw the game live for 2nd week in a row. The stadium is really cool and the Richmond fans very kind as was the Richmond coaching staff for not pouring it on. I saw 23-24 year olds push around our 18-20 year ago along the LOS all day long. I did enjoy the RPO we ran in 2nd half and was happy for our RBs to get a little room to show their stuff. With the change in Head Coach in 2019, the combination of scholarship players that didn't pan out, others that quit and career ending injuries along the LOS have left us in a place that we can not play with CAA teams.

What a joke

Looks like we are capable of scoring 3 points a game
Brisson has to be the first to go, as in now. Lehigh's offensive production since November 2019 is historically awful. Worse than some of those Georgetown offenses! Snyder, Garcia, Hill, Allen and the WR's are more than capable skill players! The coaching has to provide them with the ability to succeed. Beesmer looked a little better than Wilkinson (who looks completely overmatched) at QB. Even so, far from good enough...

The defense is just weak up the middle and gets beat over the top. Richmond missed on several big play opportunities.

Richmond took mercy on Lehigh in the second half. This game easily could have been 45-3, 52-3. I honestly don't see the Spiders ending up much better than 6-5. Princeton up next. The Tigers will be more explosive than Richmond.

Also, brutal day for the PL. Holy Cross getting run out of Fitton by Merrimack is beyond shocking. The Crusaders were a 28 point favorite? Perhaps, Lafayette and Fordham can salvage some pride. I picked Lafayette...uh oh....
I have stated repeatedly that the OC is the problem, not the oft blamed OL. That said, Lehigh established a run game with a true read QB in the game. That opened up the inside and suddenly the RBs had some creases. If the OC can build on that run game with the quick pass game, maybe there is more success on O.

Positives…I think the D can play when the O holds the ball and gives them a rest. First downs and time of possession were solid in 2H. D is undersized and cannot be on the field as long as they were in 1H.

Beesmer clearly a good runner (67 yards today) and had some success throwing the ball vs Lafayette in 2019. He can be a solid dual threat that Lehigh has not had since Shaf. Owl isn’t far off but I wouldn’t judge QB on the first 10 throws since 2019 inn 28-3 game.

All this said. The problem is not a mystery.
Pretty much agree. Bees will improve passing given more reps in practice with receivers. His running ability gave OL better angles for blocking.
Took much too long to get him on the field. Clear staff fell in love with CW's physical talent. Evident from last year that didnt carry over to games. A friend described him as a Professional Practice Player.. A practice stud but a game dud.

After two games Bucknell has been outscored 76-3. Hell of a job by Cecchini.

So, we’ll find out if Lehigh is better or worse than a bad Colgate team. Doesn’t seem like this will say much about where the PL “shakes out” since there are no other PL matchups between now and the 25th. The matchup between Lafayette and Fordham on 10/2 will tell us a lot more.

Pardon the interruption, as I'm more of a basketball guy. I think I'm stating the obvious, but the league has to decide if they want to be competitive in football at this level. For what its worth from this casual football fan, I didn't like this coaching hire either. But to be fair, the restrictions on total schollies, roster size, and no red-shirting makes us non-competitive against most 1-AA teams regardless of who's coaching.

If this can't be fixed because of league structure, fix the league structure, form an alliance with the Pioneer League, or go DIV III.

PS: How god awful is U-CONN losing to Holy Cross?

I may sound like a broken record but bring in Stambaugh as OC to reenergize Lehigh offense.

No reason for Patriot League to be this bad—They got scholarships to compete & went backwards??
