Villanova

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

Villanova 31 Lehigh 7 3:06 2Q

The bright side? Lehigh scores their first TD against an OOC opponent since 9/28/19
The bad news? Gilmore is still coach and the team is inept....

And theb2nd on a great play by Burbage
31-14
D has been stalwart except for the 2ndary ,our supposed strong unit, totally unable to cover deep passing. Watkins avging near 30 yds per comp. DBs are missing coverages. Does anyone talk back there. Wide open bombs for 2 TDs. Having lots of athletes does little good without a cohesive unit.
A shame as D has done well limiting runs only to be done in by the 2ndary.

UGH!
45-17 Final

About what I expected given the coaching staff. The offense was able to move the ball at times but overall simply not good enough. The defense got torched for several huge plays due to secondary lapses. Reminded me of 2017/2018 on defense.

Overall, simply way too predictable of an outcome. If nothing else, hopefully one game closer to the end of Gilmore and Co....

An L to the #5 team. Disappointing. And maddening.
0 was decent. Positive we outscored last year's O total over 1st 6 games. OL did well overall. Perri some mistakes but a solid game. Good start to build on.
D had good moments. DL and LBs solid. 2ndary an absolute mess. 2 wide open bombs for TDs. Seemed like Nova could throw for 30+ yards at will.

Nice honest assessment.

If you want to see some good work watch the link below and pick up on OT #79, the freshman from Ohio Adrian Palmer. He is one on one with the Villanova DL. He brought his lunch pail to work today. I like the late move where he slaps his opponent to the ground. Very sound! Very promising!

Good catch 808. OlL better than I feared. Run game was good as was pass protection. O had their share of yips but were pretty sound with the schemes.
O needs to improve each week. But a good base to start from. Staff has to fix the evident confusion, lack of communication,in the 2ndary.

Imagine the talent Lehigh had on the field last night without this inept coaching staff! Post game comments from Gilmore are embarrassing for a D1 coach.

"I'm disappointed because we could have and should have played better than we did,"

What? Preparation is the only reason this happens. It’s on you TG and it’s been happening your entire career.

After Lehigh beats an awful Gtown, we will all hear about the “progress”.

Fair points LUFAN. OC had his unit prepared. An unimaginative game plan but executed well. Red zone better but still.needs to improve. OL the main takeaway. Crisper than we've seen in 5 years. Perri had a pocket and RBs had running lanes. Both frosh stood up well.
And then the D. DL and LBs were solid for the most part.
With a stable of RBs and a new QB,guess Coach K stacked vs the run.. I expected 2ndary to stem any pass attack. I was wrong. Watkins didn't throw much but he hit for almost 30 yds per completion. Missed assignments, ack of communication and confusion were evident. A veteran 2ndary should not have these issues to any such degree. We did.

Lafayette takes down defending NEC Champion Sacred Heart 6-0 in Troxell's debut. Their defense was as awesome as their offense was pathetic. Nevertheless, a very good win over a respected opponent. Based on Temple's 30-0 loss to Duke last night I think the 'Pards have a punchers chance. Owl football is a dumpster fire right now. There might be 10k people at the Linc...

Georgetown pummeled Marist 43-12. Who will be the favorite next week in DC?
