So, now what?

Back-to-back PL champs 2016 and 2017.... but need to get back to relevance in the national FCS scene.

The D (on the field way too much and giving up some big plays) isn't THE problem now.

Also, maybe there was a mutiny at some level at HC before Gilmore was fired. That said, I have a friend whose son played for Gilmore there (on O). The son (who probably could have played more) loved him, as did his teammates. The son graduated a year or two before Gilmore got canned.

I would believe the assertion Gilmore was supported by Clawson and Higgins. Frankly, based on that duo's record of success, how would you go against what they said? They worked with him before he went to Wake Forest. And Sterrett knew him from Lehigh.
1. I am dear friends with two families who had kids on the team in 2017 when he was fired. It was a mutiny. Both of these kids, starters and one all-conference, hated the guy.

2. I personally know of several high school coaches in the northeast who do not even want Lehigh on campus because they will not allow their kids to play for him. This is FACT, no BS.

3. He "MAY??" be a defensive guy, not a leader, and not head coach material. He is archaic in his coaching style and that just does not resonate with today's players.

4. The defense, while decent against the run has allowed a 77% completion rate (130 of 168) and ranks 118 of 123. WHY WOULD ANYONE NEED TO RUN THE BALL??????

5. Scott Brisson has become proficient at making good QBs worse in his time as OC/QB coach. Promising recruits have not grown and developed. He is should have been gone two years ago when he wasted a scholarship on an FBS kid who never threw a college pass and failed miserably at Lehigh.

This forum just amazes me. I understand being a fan and wanting to support, as I do. This program will go nowhere under Tom Gilmore. Recognize it and simply move in a new direction.

The guy is an insensitive selfish jerk like I wrote before. My son is being recruited at this level and despite my playing here he isn't even considering Lehigh bc of Gilmore. The pay and institutional support is definitely sub-par but for a multitude of reasons the job will still get quality applicants. Fire Gilmore, hire a young innovative driven mind and let's start the rebuilding process.

The 4 proposed candidates to replace Gilmore listed in this thread are all really good options to interview.

I wanted Stambaugh because of his QB/passing prowess & Lehigh association combined with sustained HS success. But perhaps he doesn’t want the recruiting trips necessary at the college level vs HS.

The other successful local coaches at D3 level make sense.

I was willing to give Gilmore a chance but it looks like that day has run it’s course & I think he knows it as well.

I would definitely add Jim Clements at Kutztown! He was on my shortlist when they hired Gilmore. He has run a successful program since taking over for Folmer several years ago. They're 3-2 with close losses to Assumption and #5 Shepard and owning a win over #17 Cal (PA). 11-2 in 2021, 11-2 in 2019, 9-2 in 2018, 8-3 in 2018

Definitely onboard with Duke Greco at Delaware Valley too!

I would love to know more about Al Golden's name tossed being around when Coen stepped down? Groeller cited LFN as a reference when he mentioned Golden's name in the Morning Call.

Good points LU FAN.

In retrospect, turns out I was off a few years as to when my friend's son played. It was toward the middle of Gilmore's career at HC. Knowing my friend, his son would not have had an issue with an "archaic" coach -- I know the type and agree with you that style is not effective now (though I know some coaches who have changed with the times).

Clements was by far my top choice. Still think he will be the best option.
Makes sense that Joe listened to Higgins and Clausen. No matter now. Only issue is fixing a broken system. Actually you could probably do it by getting a new OC Regardless of the plethora of valid reasons,5 yrs of no O is ridiculous. Felt that his experience with Folmar and Ceech meant he would excel. I was wrong.
TG is responsible for his hires. It is disturbing that we see the same mistakes game to game. That is coaching.
I'm a patient fellow overall but I would like to see a title contender soon. I don't know how many rebuilding years left .🤷‍♂️😳😊

Did anyone get a response from Sterrett or is he just playing ostrich with us like he has about the program as a whole for the last 4 years?

Honestly…. When an alum emails you, particularly about something that is obviously a source of frustration and embarrassment to many, do your job and respond. Say something.

I’m fully disgusted with the ineptitude.
