Patriot League Tournament

Post by grad81 » Tue Apr 20, 2021 10:12 pm

The Patriot League announced they have reinstated the pre Covid tournament format which means there will be two quarterfinal games and now six teams in the tournament. The #2 and #3 seeds in each division will play each other with the winner playing the #1 seed in the semis. In the South, Loyola will play Navy with the winner playing Lehigh. In the North, BU will play Colgate with the winner playing Army. The semis and finals will be played at Lehigh. Good for the PL to open it up.

Interesting first look at the potential NCAA tournament match ups.

If that would hold (it won't), we would finally get our matchup with Syracuse.

I'm not even sure Syracuse makes the tournament when all the smoke clears. They are currently 5-4 with games against Virginia (who will be seething after the beatdown in February) and Notre Dame. Then they will likely be in a play-in game for the ACC Tournament (maybe Virginia again). The could possibly be 5-7 by tournament time.

BTW, no one will say that Duke can't win the close ones. There last 4 wins were 15-14 (Syracuse), 12-11 (North Carolina), 13-12 (Virginia) and tonight 13-12 (Notre Dame). In the middle there was a 13-8 loss to Notre Dame.
True parity in the ACC.

It appears that Lehigh will play the winner of the BU-Colgate game in the semis and not Loyola or Navy. Read on several sites that the #1 seed in the South will play the North quarterfinal winner and vice versa. If that’s the case, should be good for LU, but the format seems to be continually changing.

'Cuse beats #4 Virginia...should help their case immensely.

Does this apply to the women too? That would kinda suck in that it means Lehigh would have to play Navy again to get into the semi-finals.

Yes, it appears the women are following the same format, but I am not sure if the north and south divisions are aligned the same as the men’s.
