Lehigh. Bucknell

L 68-60. We controlled the first 3 quarters. Collapsed in the 4th scoring only 9 points. Team could not hit anything. Overall shot around 30% for the game mostly due to the 4th period collapse.

Both MBB and WBB showed that we can play with Bucknell. Remains to be seen if we can beat them.

Fwiw, Bucknell outscored LU in the first and third quarters, as well as the fourth. LU had a huge second quarter, but was outscored 23-19 in the third to let Bucknell back into it. For the first 19:30, LU outscored BU 32-21. For the final 20:30, it was BU 47-28. Both teams were so-so on threes, but the second half rebounding was a big factor. In that half, LU was outrebounded 22-10 after having a first half advantage.

Should be an interesting game tomorrow.

Looks like both MBB and WBB are suffering from lack of experienced players. These battles will help them come together and mature as a team.....looking for good things over the next 2-3 years. I see PL Championships.

WBB kept pace with the men by losing 80-16.

In sum Lehigh sports went 0-5 this weekend.

I can't help but think that Jackie Vargas MIGHT have been a game changer for Lehigh this year. This team has a lot of pieces it has lacked in the past but really, really needs an athletic defensively minded post player. Jackie is a 3 X 1st Team 6A player in PA. But this is the article from her sophomore year that got my attention

Lehigh is not necessarily a small team this year but Grothaus and Sexe are probably the only true post players on the team. We have a lot of tall wings. Neither is considered a defensive stopper. Bucknell seemed to exploit that doing most of their scoring in the paint.

Next year, when she returns and we add Meghan O'Brien, this may be a different looking team.

Just a thought.

I'm told Covid concerns in the fall. I think she may have decided to take the year off like many freshmen around the nation.
