PJ Ogunsanya
PJ Ogunsanya
Army West Point is showing him at 141 for the upcoming season. Obviously, he's been effective at 149 but it appears coach Ward thinks he'd be more of an AA threat at 141. I tend to agree.
Re: PJ Ogunsanya
I thought I saw PJ in the transfer portal awhile back -- as a grad student. He's not there now.

I'm not sure where you got your information but PJ is listed on Army '21-'22 roster as a senior and at 141, a weight class that he last dabbled in as a freshman.
Can anyone actually get a grad year from a Military Academy? I though a service commitment is part of the deal.

Re: PJ Ogunsanya
A service commitment is definitely part of the deal, although occasionally a FB player tries to get permission to play in the NFL before he goes into the service. Usually the answer is no.TMH wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 5:40 pm

I didn't say it was recent and I don't see him now, but I remember seeing Peter Ogunsanya, Army, in the portal. As a grad student. Yes, I was surprised. I assumed it meant that for whatever reason he was leaving the Point.
Actually, seeing him transferring as a grad student is more believable than seeing him at 141 next season.

...Actually, after watching his vs Lobeck several times in '18-19, I was surprised he moved up to 149. Approx height of Trevor Chinn but with less girth (yes, enviable bod)

Re: PJ Ogunsanya
The last time PJ wrestled at 141 was on 1/26/19 in the All-Academy tournament. 2-1/2 years ago. After seeing him at Spooky Nook at the end of February, I wondered how he was still making 149.

DOD does send a select group of academy graduates directly to graduate school, medical school or named international scholar programs such as Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Knox scholars.TMH wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 5:40 pmI'm not sure where you got your information but PJ is listed on Army '21-'22 roster as a senior and at 141, a weight class that he last dabbled in as a freshman.

Bethlehem resident Rear Admiral Scott Pappano USN, graduated #1 at USNA in 1989 and was given DOD scholarship to go directly to MIT. BS Naval Architecture and Engineering. MIT MS Nuclear Engineering. Now heads next generation submarine development. His father was longtime right hand man to Frank Banjo, Banko Beverage distribution. One of east coast largest beer distributors.
So conceivably there is a path that an academy athlete could have a grad transfer year, but highly unlikely.
