I was being facetious. It was odd Mays' birthday ended up as a topic on this forum.

Greatest ballplayer ever. There was absolutely nothing he couldn't do on a ballfield. Great defense, cannon for an arm, speed on the basepaths, hit for power, hit for average. A real joy to watch him play.

And great baseball instincts.

Roger Angell once kiddingly referred to the Giants' secret trick play to catch basestealers. When the runner on first broke for second, the catcher would throw wild past second base so that Mays could throw out the runner trying to advance to third.

The general quote is used a lot for various people and places.
