What is competitively Nationally? 31st place. Top 25% of 77 teams next year?
What makes anyone think Lehigh will do any better against the 30 teams that finished ahead of them this year?
Lehigh most definitely has holes to fill hopefully with transfer portal. If Stanford goes down, there most definitely are academically qualified men to transfer to Lehigh. As for graduate transfers, Lehigh barely ranks in Top 80 for most graduate programs. There are plenty of options for a wrestler who had a +3.0 GPA and does reasonably well on GRE/GMAT depending on major. For most grad major, Lehigh lacks the student flow to even be breakeven financially. On we go.
Lane/Hines/Paetzell/McGonagle all need to certify as low as possible. They are not Top 8, but each has a shot at R12 next year. See who is still standing year end. Paetzell whom he did wrestle, wrestled well at 141. The UNC guy was an AA. Any of them could starve to 125 or build up bulk to 141.
157 Humphreys. His lack of length would be a problem at 165. Could you imagine him against 6'1" Griffith. Josh will make weight.
149/165/174/184/197 Portal Transfer of R12 ability would help Lehigh whether for 1 year or 2 years. None of Lehigh wrestlers are Saturday ready for NCAA. If not, we have what we had this year qualifiers and few points at NCAA.
285 Wood. Did you see the athletic ability of the Top 4. Even pudgy Schultze of Arizona State can move. Cassioppi was a multi sport athlete. Jordan has to lose weight and gain more flexibility. Has almost nothing from neutral. Relies on his crank over from top. Does not compute with the bigger and better athletic heavy. I posted earlier there were at least 10 NCAA heavys who could beat Jordan. Next year it will be close to 15 unless he slims down and moves more.
I have no grand hopes that Lehigh will be a Top 20 team next year. The recruiting class with Crookham and Casale will hopefully be the talent that brings Lehigh back into Top 10 level. For now, we just don't have the horses. Too much funk and not enough attack neutral fundamental shots. Looks at what won at almost every weightclass at NCAA. Solid singles, doubles, high crotch.
