Nice to have options.

Jaret Lane has established, albeit a COVID-shortened season, himself as a legit national-caliber AA candidate at 125. A little improvement from neutral and he will be very dangerous indeed.
Malyke Hines has great potential. Whether he can hold 133 remains to be seen. That decision has probably already been made. My gut tells me he's moving up.
Connor McGonagle, theortically, in that case would move down to 133. That would be a very potent 1-2-3 from 3 very highly regarded recruits coming in out of high school.
Where does that leave Brandon Paetzell should he choose to return? His big year came when he returned to 125 where he had a decided size advantage. It's now 2 years later. He may rank with McGonagle at 133.
149 may be a need if Hoffman doesn't recover fully. Any thoughts?

Potential Possible Depth Chart for 2021-22 (not in any particular order, with true freshmen and those with no 2020-21 results to the right)

125: Lane, Seymour, Bailey
133: Paetzell, Polito, Abe, Rodriguez
141: Hines, McGonagle, Lobeck, Munch, Storm, Moran, Herring
149: MB4, Hoffman, Watkins, Edmondson, Martin, Brignola
157: Humphreys, Frinzi, Burkhart, Haubert, Cooley, Sung
165: Lawrence, Meyer, Kilrain
174: Logan, Herceg, Cornish
184: Davis, Wright, Ammerman, Grape
197: Jakobsen, Shedleski
285: Wood, Lacombe, Jones, Moore, Chakif, Taylor

I have no inside information on what weight guys can make or whether the 5th-year seniors in the group (other than Wood) will be back for 6th years; they have eligibility remaining. I also haven't heard anything about us picking up any transfers, but my guess is that a few wind up in Bethlehem.

With a year (although abbreviated) under their belts, I think that Bryant and Lawrence are going to surprise people, assuming that 149 is doable for Bryant again.

According to Flo, Jakobsen is moving on.

Also, Ammerman. Is there any chance Humphreys goes to 165? Would open things up a bit down below

I don't see it but I prefer he stay at 157, if possible and let stiff competition work itself out in the lower weights.
Otherwise we are watering the middle weights down by forcing Lawrence up to 174 and Logan to 184.

I'm resigned to the fact that 184 and 197 are going to require someone to emerge or a late transfer.

Just my opinion though.

It never ceases to amaze me that fans can watch the NCAAs -- see how huge the top 8s are -- and advise to have guys move up to "balance the line-up." Humphreys is a top 3 guy at 157....leave him be (and note his height.) Logan was just adjusting to things at 174 -- moving him up to cover a weight isn't in his best interest. Lawrence lost 3-0 to an NCAA finalist in his first bout. I'd say he has some potential at 165 once he has a continuous training season that he didn't have last year. It may be that we will have a weight or 2 that is not national caliber. Most teams deal with that. The solution is not to water down the entire line-up. The answer is to have guys at their best weights -- weights that give them the best chance to place at nationals. Obvious to coaches, if not to fans.

LU should field the team that will do best in dual meets and in the EIWA Championships. Forget the Nationals. They're a lost cause these days.
