Willie Mays
Re: Willie Mays
Greatest 5 tool player ever. Dake & Sanderson would be the equivalent wrestlers.
Re: Willie Mays
Time flies.
I'm currently looking at my baseball signed by both Mays and Hank Aaron.
I possess neither a Dake or Sanderson autograph though.

Re: Willie Mays
Mays was the kind of player who could go 0 for 4, hit into two double plays, and still be the guy who beat you.

Re: Willie Mays
Did he come up on this message board because of the time he played for one of the visiting teams at the old Taylor Stadium or?
Re: Willie Mays
"The Say Hey Kid" played for a minor-league team called the Chattanooga Choo-Choos, essentially a farm team for the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro American League, and he helped take the team to the Negro League World Series. Doubt they played at Taylor.
Re: Willie Mays
But he did also play for the Trenton Giants in 1950.mookie wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 9:06 am "The Say Hey Kid" played for a minor-league team called the Chattanooga Choo-Choos, essentially a farm team for the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro American League, and he helped take the team to the Negro League World Series. Also there was likely still some barnstorming going on so who knows?
I can't find any indication he played there but ...
