Rob Koll to Stanford?
Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
I would not expect to see but one or two guys from the current roster follow Rob to Stanford, however his “yet another” top notch recruiting class may not be as lock solid for heading to Ithaca. The Big Red does have some big time logjams at certain weights and some of these new guys may not be as comfortable with assurances from Grey as opposed to Koll.

Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
With a brand new/redone arena opening this year and a loaded roster I would imagine it was more than the money and Stanford outreach that pulled Koll away.....lot of rumors but things had to be ugly between Koll and administration/Ivy League....Grey will be a very solid replacement but you have to wonder if whatever drove Koll away will cause bigger problems for the Big Red than the fact that Koll left.....
Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
I would have thought Rob would have wanted to restart UCDavis. Also an excellent Agricultural School.
Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
I suspect the only way we ever learn anything more is when a staffer at another team is willing to share something he's heard. I have to believe that there's a lot more to this than one guy's needle phobia.Spladle1989 wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 10:39 am With a brand new/redone arena opening this year and a loaded roster I would imagine it was more than the money and Stanford outreach that pulled Koll away.....lot of rumors but things had to be ugly between Koll and administration/Ivy League....Grey will be a very solid replacement but you have to wonder if whatever drove Koll away will cause bigger problems for the Big Red than the fact that Koll left.....
Also agree that the Cornell team isn't going to follow Rob to the Left Coast. Maybe a handful of guys, sure. But shifting 2500 miles to a school with strict academic standards? I don't see a mass exodus.

I also wouldn't put much stock in their academic year: just because someone is listed as "Senior" doesn't mean they only have one year of eligibility left. For instance, Fernandes is listed as a Sophomore, but he has four years of eligibility left. You'll see some of these guys take a fall semester off so as to not graduate before their eligibility runs out.
All the guys we watched doing freestyle this year were not enrolled: Vito, Yianni, Ramirez, Foca, Loew, etc.

Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
Just wondering....but what function does the transfer portal have other than being a Craigslist for "used" athletes?
Aren't transfer applications/acceptances up to the individual schools?

Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
Entering the transfer portal allows communication between the athlete and the prospective transferred-to school. Without being in the transfer portal, contact between the new school (or anyone acting on their behalf) and the athlete is considered a serious breach of conduct and could result in loss of eligibility.
Athlete still has to apply for admission, of course, which they can do prior to entering the portal.
Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
Thanks for the explanation although it still sounds much like a Craigslist.
The transfer portal is a vehicle that let's prospective colleges know that an athlete has something of value...their eligibility. The athlete however can still peddle his eligibility privately though by contacting institutions that they are interested in or may have a need for his or her services, much like the old days.
I just didn't understand why the portal has a cutoff date. I would assume that every college has their own protocol and deadlines for transfers.
This is obviously a slow time of year

Re: Rob Koll to Stanford?
My list of things to ask the Lehigh staff the next time I'm up there includes how exactly the transfer portal works.
Evidently in the old days, if a potential transfer reached out to the Lehigh staff, all they were allowed to do was give him the contact info for the admissions office. I still hear that they don't know who's coming until the first day of class.
I don't understand the cutoff date either.

Great article from Mike about the Ivy aid and recruiting landscape.
