Thankfully, you were not around for the 1700s. There were demonstrations everywhere.

How many 10s of 1000s more Americans would have died in Viet Nam, for no reason without anti war demonstrations?

Again, Chauvin was convicted of MURDER. Without aggressive demonstrations, charges would likely have never been brought.

I was not the person who brought politics into the forum. It should stop here, but I doubt it will

When Hershey's new arena, now the Giant Center, was being built, there was talk of a amall NHL size arena. The original, Hershey Park Arena, was the size of many big city arenas of its time. Hershey Foods and Herco could have afforded to go it alone, financially. But early on, the state offered 25%. But certain legislators decided the money would only come forth if, instead of a couple thousand seats bigger than BJC it was a couple thousand smaller. Hershey can certainly handle the crowds. Not uncommon for them to have 15,000+ in the park, 15,000+ in the Stadium.

Someone forgot to count the # of riots, looters, arsonists, and murders committed in the name of social justice.....a convoluted way of viewing te world. Apparently we are NOT subscribing to MLK's view of the world any longer. Guess we need to tear up one more monument in Washington DC now to update our "justice/equity" thinking.

I take it the path forward is to riot whenever we have a murder of a "innocent" black an. OK....when do the riots start to commemorate the murder of dozens killed by black / black crime in Chicago?

Was Chauvin guilty? Yes. That does in NO WAY justify the rioting during last summer under ANY circumstance.

BTW - I still think those NCAA locations are terrible choices.

I'm done commenting.

I have no problem with "demonstrations" or "protests"..... but to call what happened at many of the BLM events "justified " is ridiculous......they were far more violent and destructive than a "demonstration" or a "protest"......looting, property destruction, arson and violence are not "justified" forms of "protest".....

No, powers that be when gaming was being discussed in Lehigh Valley pitted Allentown v. Bethlehem. Bethlehem got the casino. The consolation prize politically was to put Arena in Allentown along Allentown Lehigh River waterfront.

Now imagine, if a public private partnership could have been struck with Shel Adelson and Sands at that time. Build the Sands Lehigh Valley Arena in south Bethlehem at 20,000 seat size to meet NCAA eligibility for a host of sports for regional or national championships. Lehigh and Lafayette with partial tenancy to bring in big time basketball programs into the Lehigh Valley. Missed the one and only opportunity. Instead, they built the 30th plus arena in nation at 8000 seats (commodity product) that cannot meet minimum NCAA requirements for hosting regional or NCAA events.

Typical parochial PA and its 2500 fiefdoms, especially Lehigh Valley with its 63 competing municipalities.
Great explanation!

I don't agree. I'm in no position to see a business plan for an arena that would likely cost about $700M including a lot of additional parking in a location which is not logistically conducive to handle crowds of that size from a traffic standpoint so that we can hold a wrestling tournament possibly every 10 years and hopefully lure some name team to travel to Bethlehem to play Lehigh or Lafayette. Yes there may be some additional concerts that may require the much bigger arena if they fit within the 75 mile radius clause but I would assume one would need at least 150-200 dates per year to survive.

The PPL Center was really struggling even prior to Covid to get enough acts outside of the Phantoms to keep the surrounding businesses viable.

Just my opinion.

Rich - unfortunately, you do realize you’re wasting your breath on this website.

Big problem with Lehigh Valley for a large arena in addition to the traffic issue already elucidated - lack of hotel rooms. You would need somewhere in the vicinity of 10,000 hotel rooms within 30 minutes of the venue. That comes out to 40 hotels at 250 rooms each. I doubt if there is even one hotel that close with that many rooms (which is only a mid sized suburban hotel or a boutique city hotel). Maybe Hotel B? Not any others for sure. People aren’t staying in Philly and driving to Bethlehem.

I just reposted it to prove how quickly some folks turn nonpolitical posts into political.

Post civil war Mauch Chunk (Jim Thorpe) had a 300+ room hotel, the Mansion House. The Millionaires stayed at the Juanita.

Hershey might have had the Hotel capacity for NCAA, but powers thst be wanted the Giant center to be smaller than BJC. I suspect pro Hockey migjt not have wanted to see an AHL team with some Attendance greater than NHL
