Hey, my family vacationed there for years when I was young. Stayed in a cabin in the Alton Bay area. Ate a lot of lobster. Remember The Weirs (I think that's what it was called) and a big boat called the Mt. Washington( I think) that used to go back and forth on the lake.

Watching Carew and Oliva hit to all parts of the field is why baseball was exciting at one time and took 2 hours and 15 minutes to play. As I much as I love baseball and I like it even more than wrestling today’s game becomes more and more boring every month. Come on 4 hour games, who has the time?
Legger I agree Oliva should be HOF!

Re: Gaige Garcia
I'm convinced that some players suffer in the HOF voting because the voters don't always consider their careers in context. Oliva hit well at a time of little offense, so that was very much in his favor. But he also had a relatively short career by HOF standards -- 11 or 12 core seasons -- at a time when many players with 20-year careers (Mays, Aaron, Robinson) were under consideration, so Tony's career stats looked a little lame. After those guys were all in the Hall, offense had increased again so Tony's year-by-year stats looked modest. He was a terrific player, one of the best hitters of his era, and had significant MVP support (2nd twice!) but that didn't sway the voters.mh1 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 10:47 am Watching Carew and Oliva hit to all parts of the field is why baseball was exciting at one time and took 2 hours and 15 minutes to play. Here's the sort of thing I mean -- I've told folks at times about Bobby Murcer's "monster year" for the Yankees in 1972. Anybody remember that? He hit .292 in 153 games, 30 doubles, 33 homers, 96 RBIs. Monster year? But think back -- 1972 was the last season before the AL adopted the DH rule, and it was a strike year -- Murcer played in every game for the Yankees that season. Absolute numbers were a little low league-wide because teams missed 8 or 9 games each. He was 4th in WAR (Dick Allen was the only better position player), a stat that didn't exist at the time; 10th in batting average; 3rd in slugging pct; 4th in OBA; 1st in runs; 3rd in hits; 1st in total bases; 3rd in doubles; 4th in triples; 2nd in homers; 3rd in RBIs; tied for 1st in extra base hits. In all the modern stats he was near the top. This was a career season, a truly great year in a season when league batting average was .239 and the Red Sox led the league with 124 home runs.
Murcer had 11 assists as a center fielder that year, tied for 4th among all outfielders. He's remembered as a fair but not good hitter and an adequate fielder, nowhere near HOF recognition. Eras.

The GG deal with Lehigh is officially confirmed.
Time to go back into my cave, letting Mookie call Spladle names, something I never did at least in June.
Sincerely, an avid fan of publications (unsure how much mine has earned but likely North of $400k)

Only on a Lehigh wrestling board can Tony Oliva outdo all other posts combined but participation is a good thing.
I found a great compilation of Oliva's career. He was a career .300 hitter (.304) and led the AL in hitting 3 X and hits 5 X. He played in Minnesota though and in the shadows of Harmon Killebrew and during an era that included Mantle, Mays, Aaron and a whole host of other household names in bigger markets.
Points of interest....Oliva appears to have been one of the best and worst RF in the AL. He led the AL in errors (most) 3X. Putouts 6X, assists 2 X double plays 3X.
Oliva never even came close to the HOF voting. In a process where you need 75% approval, the best he ever got was 47% and that was only 1 of 2 years over 40%.

Food for thought .... in 2017, 2019, and 2020, Lehigh issued its recruiting release in May. In 2018, the release was held until July; that year Connor Schram transferred in a late deal (turned out to be much ado about nothing, but still).
We're in late June now and there's been no recruiting release, although surely a draft has been sitting in the SID office for some weeks now. Garcia's kind of old news by now, but there's still no release.
Interpretation: We're not done.

Re: Gaige Garcia
Orrrrr worried a “big” recruit is changing his mind….Hopefully it’s a big recruit or transfer switching to The hawkineers…
Re: Gaige Garcia
My theory is that with limited roster spots and 5th years and 6th years, some coaches want to be cautious befoe making announcements. Others tend to post what they have and add as they go along.
Football was quick to release the list of recruits during the early signing period but has yet to release those who signed in February.
Just a thought.
