2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
: Putting the Pitt dual in Stabler at 5:00 pm could benefit attendance at both events.
Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
Hartman is an inch taller but 15 lbs lighter than Gaige. WV high school football is nothing compared to schedule that Southern Columbia plays and level of coaching there, plus a year at Michigan coaching. Lehigh has landed one hell of an athlete in Gaige Garcia. Reminds me of Mike Alstott of Tampa Bay Buccs fame who was about 6' and 205 lbs coming out of Joliet Catholic (IL). Only knock on Gaige in wrestling despite only 2 losses from sophomore year through senior year is that AA 195/182 for PIAA AA did not have much top tier Division 1 talent. However, he is powerful and knows how to put his opponent on their back. That will not change in college. His athleticism will allow him to develop a top tier take down whether blast double or upper body throw. Lehigh is very fortunate to have a guy of this caliber and likely his brother following behind him. Then if Lehigh gets Thayne Lawrence's brother down the line for wrestling, should be some good brother combinations on Lehigh wrestling team. Throw in Crookham. Lehigh could be something special in about 3 years.TMH wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 2:13 pm Jake was a very good QB at Stroudsburg but I think only played his last 2 years there. IMO, he would have been a good FCS QB. The thing was Nick Shafnisky who ended up being Patriot League and ECAC Offensive POY in Jake's freshman year was already there. Brad Mayes (who had an outstanding career at Lehigh) prior to losing his OL in his senior season was already here. Jake's scholarship was for wrestling and he absolutely made the right move IMO.
Whoever said he would have been the best QB on the team was likely sadly mistaken.
Ironically, Gaige may face the same situation. Hopefully we will see how Allen and Hill can run behind a rebuilt offensive line but Lehigh has an outstanding recruit in Blake Hartman, who won every major award for an offensive player in West Virginia coming in too. Garcia and Hartman seem to have the same running style although Hartman may be bigger and stronger and played at a higher level in HS. It may make Garcia's decision for him.
Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
I have no idea what the future holds. Neither does anyone else but that is what makes these fora interesting.
Garcia was an elite high school athlete at a small but very, very accomplished school. Many times that can translate well to the college game. There are other times where it does not. Only time will tell. I do think however that playing 2 sports on the collegiate level puts one at a disadvantage to those training year round for one.
As for Hartman, his height and weight are all over the place depending on how far back you go. All the folks in WV list him at 6-1, 220#. If that is true, he would be 3" taller and 15 # heavier, not lighter. Lehigh, preliminarily had him at 6-0 and 210#. Hartman will likely only get bigger while Garcia will need to maintain 197# for wrestling. While Southern Columbia is an absolute powerhouse, don't overestimate their competition.
Whatever happens, I wish Gaige the best of luck in his endeavors and that he keeps an open mind to his options in the future. I'm just not wildly optimistic of the short run just yet.
Again, time will tell.

Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
I confirmed a little while ago that there's no Princeton Open this year.

Before any skeptics jump to conclusions, ASU, PSU, Cornell, Okla St are locks for Top 10 and Pitt might be.
Princeton, Navy, Army are a lot tougher than recent years & re all likely Top 10 before any surprise additions.
Certainly very few breathers.
LEHIGH WRESTLING SCHEDULE 2021-22
?? Fri TBA Wrestle offs 7:00 pm
Nov 7 Sun @Princeton Open 9:00 am
Nov 13 Sat @ Journeyman Troy 9:00 am
Nov 20 Sat Pitt 2:00 pm
Dec 5 Sun @ PSU 2:00 pm
Dec 21-22 Tu-W Duals All Day ??
Jan 8 Fri Binghamton 7:00 pm
Jan 9 Sat Cornell 2:00 pm
Jan 14 Fri ?? 7:00 pm
Jan 15 Sun Navy 2:00 pm
Jan 23 Sun @ Okla St 1:00 pm
Feb 5 Sat Army TBA
Feb 12 Fri Bucknell 7:00 pm
Feb 19 Sat @ ASU 2:00 pm
March 4-6 ?? EIWA’s @Cornell
March 17-20 Th-Sa NCAA’s Detroit
By my calculations: Journeyman = 3 or 4 bouts December Duals =3 or 4 bouts ... then there are 10 duals against very rugged competition. That's 16 to 18 bouts prior to EIWAs. Plenty to keep injuries down and guys fresher for holding weight. This is a model more programs should adopt.
Pitt, Penn State, Cornell, Navy, Army, Oklahoma State, Arizona State === for an EIWA team, that's as tough as it gets.
Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
Frankly will never understand this thinking. Most injuries happen in practice so limit practice time if you're so concerned. I'd like to see more duals not less.
Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
Do you have any per capita per hour data on this?
It's likely that that happens because everyone practices and does so for maybe an hour and a half a day or so rather than 10 going 7 minutes once or twice a week.
Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
A quick google search reported that 63.8% of all sports injuries occurred during practices and 21.9% of injuries kept athletes from play for 7 or more days. Injuries sustained in competition were more severe than those sustained in practice in terms of injuries that required surgery (5.4% vs. 3.1%) and injuries that required emergency transport (1.4% vs. 0.6%).
Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
Which shows exactly what I was guessing. There are about twice as many injuries in practice but 2-3 times the number of people practicing and how much more time per day in practice than in competition every week?mookie wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 6:16 pm A quick google search reported that 63.8% of all sports injuries occurred during practices and 21.9% of injuries kept athletes from play for 7 or more days. Re: 2021-22 TENTATIVE LU SCHEDULE
So the takeaway is practice smarter and perhaps less and add about 5 more home duals.
