Only Marty (besides CJ) was a product of the journalism school. Although, not purely journalistic, Ricky Kirshner is a bit of a Superstar winning 9 Emmys out of 25 nominations presenting events that make the news. He, also, was not part of the journalism school.

If you have SXM radio, at 9:00 AM weekdays, you have a dilemma. Stephanie or Smerconish.

Rick Hepp was actually a fairly well known Journalist for the Star-Ledger(before going to law school). Pretty Sure That, like the others, was not a journalism major.

My co-founder of National Mat News, Bill White '74, was a B&W peer of Marty Baron. Bill went to Ohio State for his 2nd journalism degree (MA) but returned 'home" to the Valley (he was NNJ) for the Morning Call as their premier 3 col/wk feature writer. Not nationally known, he's a legend in the ABE area incl his features on best decorated homes at Xmas, plus light features on eating his way thru Musikfest (Ka-ching!).

Biting political stuff. I used to work on the LVWC board with a former asst to the Allentown mayor (Daddona, I think); one mtg I casually mentioned I was having lunch with White and the guy erupted: "You ARE!?? Do you realize how POWERFUL he is in the area??!" i hadda' laugh; "hey, it's my buddy, Bill"; the guy recalled quaking at some of Bill's pit bull editorials.

WR White, Jr, recently retired (incl adjunct prof at LU); now does guest columns 3x/month for the Call. Had lunch last week at BJ's Brewhouse in Lower Macungie (recommended). Will always be the same Bill to me; great guy.
