That's a big jump for LU. Last year I think it was around 26%.

There has been a steady increase in applicants (bout 4%-7%) each year at Lehigh (at least pre-covid). The jump in the acceptance rate is the desired 20% increase in enrollment from 5,000 to 6,000 under the Path to Prominence.

Harvard 4.3% - IVY/EIWA -- Undergrads = 6,755
Columbia 5.4% - IVY/EIWA = 6,245
Princeton 5.8% - IVY/EIWA = 5,422
Brown 7.1% - IVY/EIWA = 7,160
UPenn 7.7% - IVY/EIWA = 10,019
Navy 8.3% - Patriot/EIWA (except for football) = 4,524
Army 12.0% - Patriot/EIWA (except for football) = 4,457
Cornell 14.1% - IVY/EIWA = 15,043

F&M 30.0% - D3 Centennial/EIWA = 2,209
Lehigh 32.1% - PL/EIWA = 5,178
Bucknell 34.2% --- sorry for the omission - PL/EIWA = 3,627
American 36.1% - PL/EIWA = 8,527
Binghamton 40.5% - America East/EIWA = 14,165
Sacred Heart 64.0% - Northeast/EIWA = 6,158
Hofstra 68.5% - Colonial/EIWA = 6,498
Drexel 75.0% - Colonial/EIWA = 15,346
Long Island University 80.1% - Northeast/EIWA = 10,707
Patriot League misc:
M.I.T. 6.7% -- rowing only = 4,530
Georgetown 14.4% -- football, rowing only = 5,365
Boston University 18.9% = 17,983
Colgate 22.6% = 2,980
Univ of Richmond 28.0% -- women's golf only = 3,161
Lafayette 31.0% = 2,662
Holy Cross 34.2% = 3,174
Fordham 45.9% -- football only = 9,399
Loyoila (MD) 80.0% = 3,925

The league Lehigh competes in has mostly small numbers of undergrads compared to the enormous state schools that reside in Power 5 conferences. Hard to imagine any kind of sustained success when thinking in those terms. Being a top 15 team is really an outstanding accomplishment for a school with an undergrad population of 5,000 with relatively difficult admissions and no access to $6,000 per year allowable stipends.

Bucknell is 34.2%

Which leads me to strongly suggests there are 3 groups, not two.

LU-Laf-Buck do not belong in the one "other" tier"

Obvious: Bucknell doesn't accept anybody.

IMO splitting the schools into two groups is completely arbitrary -- witness the 23.5% difference between Binghamton and Sacred Heart, which are both in the second group. I could just as easily come up with "extremely exclusive" (less than 10%); "very exclusive" (> 10, < 20); and several others.
