Covid Update

Post by TMH » Wed Sep 01, 2021 4:16 pm

The # of active cases per Lehigh's dashboard has been increasing exponentially. About a week ago it was at 5, then 7, then 10, then 28, then 43, then 85 and is now at 134. A number of them are athletes.

I mention this because the Women's volleyball team is scheduled to hold the Lehigh Steel Tournament this weekend at Grace Hall. Word has it that the tournament will go on but they will likely ban spectators. Perhaps something to keep an eye on.

To be clear, those are positive tests; not positives plus quarantines due to exposure to those testing positive.

Sounds like Lehigh's not the only EIWA school affected: https://covid.cornell.edu/testing/dashboard/

Mostly correct. The # is apparently positive tests. To be clear as I understand it, those who would be subject to contract tracing no longer have to quarantine unless they also test positive, but they need to be tested regularly.

I've heard -- I have no firsthand knowledge -- it's not easy to get tests, and that the results take a day or two to come back.

And many of these are breakthrough cases.

Anyone know if ALL students are mandated to be vaccinated?

Some parents supposedly are expressing concerns about whether it might be worth it to attend Family Weekend, whenever that is.

Interesting times.

Approximately 94% of the students are fully vaccinated. Another 1.7% have one shot so far. There are about 3.7% have applied for some sort of exemption. The #s are slightly higher for undergraduates.

Here is Lehigh's dashboard. It is probably a great reference as things move forward.

https://coronavirus.lehigh.edu/covid-19 ... -reporting

As far as testing goes, those with symptoms or contact tracing are being tested. Unvaccinated need to be tested several times per week. Based on the #s above, the vast, vast majority are breakthrough cases and are likely the delta variant. Both Pfizer and Moderna have only been shown to be about 67% effective against the variant.

Hope that helps.

I am thinking that vaccinated who had contact with a positive case need not quarantine unless they also test positive. Or so I have gathered from pro sports.
