Appearing somewhat heavier than I remember him being, beat Walz 1-1 on criteria to advance to semi's vs. Gwiz.

Gwiz. Yikes.

Looking for Jordan to have great year upcoming. One of our all time greats considering the whole body of work.

As "big" as Jordan appeared (solid wt. training?)... Gwiz is a mountain of a 125Kg'er.

1st pd ended w/ Gwiz getting a passivity point (both were tagged for inactivity, when Jordan getting tagged for #2 call @ around 1:25 in pd 1.

In the 2nd, this is where the action was... and it wasn't for a lack of trying from Mr. Wood either.
A Gwiz shot was countered w/ Wood's attempted head pinch that failed as Gwiz countered with spreading his base and circled around to netralize that pinch... 2TD @ 2:38.
Same thing happened @ 1:45 for another TD by Gwiz.
Jordan shot into a single, of which a Gwiz sprawl negated that attempt.
Another single shot near the oob line by JW resulted in Gwiz's 3rd TD @1:01.
Last single leg attempt by JW resulted in the last TD for Gwiz @ 10 sec left to make the final score 9 zip.
I appeared to be A Bridge Too Far for Jordan to hurdle.

Speaking about hurdles... Jordan is now wrestling Dom Bradley (who is even bigger than Gwiz! )for the winner to wrestle for 3rd.

Imho... JW seemed to be more mobile when he was lighter? ( Able to get angles quickly... )
He came up on the short end of the stick w/ Bradley losing 6-1... he was w/in striking distance @ 2-1 upon getting a passivity point, then the wheels came off.

I spoke to his Dad at the picnic, who told me that Jordan -- like Paetzell at 133 three yrs ago -- got tired of getting outsized by the biggest collegians, with his quickness taking him to one 4th. BP went one way -- down to 126 which went well until the medical decision was to send him back up.

Jordan Wood's production in a Lehigh uniform has been tremendous. Simply tremendous. However, he was always a "tweener" -- his 240-250 weight was not the problem -- his lack of height was and is. Anthony Cassar wasn't all that heavy, but he was taller and athletic. Steveson is a freak of nature. Kerkvliet as well. Cassioppi just really huge. Schultz too. Add Mason Parris. Jordan is a solid wrestler, technically sound and obviously strong as he rides guys with his arm only about half way around them. Maybe more beef is the answer. We know one thing now after a few seasons of being "quick" -- it isn't enough anymore against the current crop of new heavyweights. IMO, with Rey and now McCoy around him, Wood will have plenty of good strategy/coaching. His 6th year should be fun.

Jordan Wood has been all we could have hoped for, things have certainly changed in the heavy world over the last few years, but the leadership and commitment he has shown has been exemplary.

Hope he has a healthy sixth year and finds his way to the podium at some level.

Coaches would agree with above two posts. The guy is a legend in the Room , terrific teammate and a really great person. In his sole loss outside the Top 10 (Air Force, NCAA) he sprained his ankle pretty bad, got it taped and nearly got a comeback victory (margin of defeat that dumb-ass rule about injuries -- as if every injury in history is faked).

His first few years on campus, he was the Santoros' go-to babysitter (just as Bruce Baumgartner used to be for the Strobel girls in Oklahoma). He'd even sit with them in the stands when he could. Whenever I ask him to write stuff for the LUWN, he always replies with exclamation marks. Nobody's perfect, but as close as most can come.
