The NCAA's decision to have last year "not count" was ill-advised. Engineering outcomes when $#it happens is really not their job. The service academies cannot have the year 'not count' -- the Ivies have their own rules as well. So now we have a deferred year (red shirt or gray shirt,) and for the elite an Olympic RS year, for others a medical RS and now the Grand Daddy of them all: the "Covid RS doesn't count year." For those of you scoring at home, that's 7 years. Ridiculous. Stuff happens in life -- deal with it and move on. Don't upset, recruiting, financial aid packages and not the least to consider -- the academic life of the wrestler just so they can have 1 EXTRA year to compete. It's beyond the pale.
Watched Peyton Robb against defending NCAA champ David Carr and Carr was quite fortunate to have won 7-5 in SV. Robb led the whole way and had it won before yielding a TD with 4 seconds left in regulation. Robb is really good. He had just taken out #2 Austin O'Connor (defending champ at 149.)
157 is a very tough weight class this year. You have Navy's 8-0 Andrew Cerniglia ranked #19!!! He has looked pretty darn good so far.
BTW, who doesn't love what Brian Meyer has done thus far this year?
have a great weekend everyone!
Week-End Salvo - BOOM
Re: Week-End Salvo - BOOM
Think of this. A Wessell like guy. Good in both wrestling and Judo (or another sport)
Grad HS 2029 at age 19 and 3 months, he had been held back in 6th grade.
PG year at say Blair 2029-30
Enters College but defers eligibility 2030-31
Olympic RS in Judo 2031-32
Compete in wrestling 2032-33 Freshman eligibility used
Pandemic Competition year 2033-34
Regular competition year 2034-35 sophomore year National finalist
Olympic RS in Wrestling 2035-36
Regular Competition year 2036-37 Junior Yr. National Champ
Regular Competition year 2037-38. Senior yr, loses in semis. Forfeits to sixth, Arthritis is getting to his 28 year old body
And note this is with no extra injury year, No military years, no religious mission.

Can Paetzell get a medical redshirt this year and wrestle next year? He can get his Phd while wrestling perhaps.imagine he’d be 24 or 25???

Largely agree here. Sad to lose a season for kids but also sad that the kids coming up behind those kids have less slots available to start somewhere because older kids don’t leave. It was (or maybe apparently IS), what is was. Covid not going anywhere. Hopefully the wrestling community and NCAA athletics in general can manage the situation and complete a proper season. After today, feels like trouble-a-brewin’ again.Oracle wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 1:09 pm The NCAA's decision to have last year "not count" was ill-advised.
