What happened to Navy's heavyweight John Birchmeier? He's no longer on the roster. Kolat run him off?

No idea, but they do have some young highly recruited heavyweights in the room….Greiss two time Nebraska state champ, three time finalist…. Catka from PA and so on…. Had a bit of injury history, maybe he just decided to be a Navy “student”….. Instagram still shows Naval Academy…..Covid years made a lot of these guys consider what they “really” want to do….

Navy simply said he decided to step away from the sport...perhaps HEW. Personally, I don't need to know the reasons.

I wonder what sport he's doing now. I believe they have to do a sport (club or varsity) at the academies.

Does cheerleading count?

• Three-sport standout who lettered in cheerleading (1), football (3) and wrestling (4)
• Member of the competitive cheer squad that won the 2018 CHSL Class 5 state championship

He was a man-child in high school but he took his lumps at Navy.

If you looked back at the last era of Male+Female Cheerleading say 2000-2010, it was obvious who the guys were. Short stocky guys who played football in HS, but were too small to play OL or DL in college (at least at Lehigh) and too slow to play linebacker or blocking back.

---------------------

By the way, we normally think of cheerleading squads as something only in USA, and maybe Canada and North Korea. But about five years ago there was a Swedish movie, The Square, about a museum director. One section of the movie, like 5-10 minutes dealt with him taking his Elementary and Middle School age daughters to a cheerleading competition.
