Wisconsin came East and wrestled two duals at the Prudential Center in Newark this past week end. 14th ranked Chris Weiler lost both of his bouts to grapplers that were ranked higher than him. The opponent from UNC was ranked 23rd, while the Hofstra wrestler was ranked 30th.

In the 1969 EIWAs, Tom Muir, a former EIWA 3rd and 2nd, was seeded #3 at 152. The Red Bear was pretty beat up as it was his 5th year (a rarity back then) -- he ends up losing to the #6 guy from UPenn in the quarters and because his guy didn't make the finals, he's eliminated from consis. His now famous quote when asked about the loss was classic: "I stayed too long at the fair."

Perhaps this applies to the previous post. Who knows?

Weiler has been erratic throughout his career & clearly peaked about 3 years ago at NCAA tournament.

If Weiler was ranked #14 and his opponents were ranked #23 and #30, weren't they ranked lower than him? Lower number is a higher ranking.

It's ambiguous. The NCAA Rules Committee should clear up the terminology next time they meet.
