Navy
Re: Navy
Rey was shown on the video arguing at the table with the ref his case about something in the 165 bout.
The argument obviously didn't go so well.

Re: Navy
ZR was arguing the stalling point against Myers.
Surprised he did not succeed in winning an argument against a referee who is also the principal of a large semi-urban High school. (CDEast)

Re: Navy
I suspect it is more the new rules rather than the referee but IMO, stalling calls have gotten a bit out of hand. There was one instance where the action ended near the edge of the mat. There is literally nowhere to go for the bottom guy other than off the mat. If you are not going to call a stalemate then let them leave the mat and start in the middle.
It seems that every leg shot results in a sprawl, how does one determine which ones get called for stalling. Many called were not very flagrant.
On the plus side, the ref was pretty consistent in spreading it out between both teams.
Just my opinion.
Re: Navy
Lane was outwrestled for most of the bout until he pulled a rabbit out of the hat near the end.
The Navy kid at 133 got chippy with Hines on an out of bounds. Wonder how that will go over with his superiors.
McGonagle barely won against a no name.
Fourth guy on the LU 149 depth chart (if you include Brignola) almost won.
Humphreys brutal as usual.
Meyer beat a kid who dominated Lawrence a couple weeks ago.
Logan has skinny arms for a short 174.
Burkhart did ok until he faded at the end.
Davis a big surprise losing to Koser by a point. Didn't Koser beat Jacobsen two out of two?
Has Wood become the new Darmstadt with his "assassin"?
Lots of Navy fans sitting in my area. Not concentrated behind the visitors' bench, as usual.
Got a very good (even without wiz) cheesesteak at Giacomo's in Easton on the way in. Highly recommended.

.... Fasten your seat belts; the inside word is that refs will be asked next year to begin cracking down on "traditional stalling" vs the current obsessions about leaving the mat and also backing up before re-shooting. So I might "get my wish" for a restoration of the old rules on stalling on top. Lord knows that's the biggest current violator -- largely because the Rules Committee decided that didn't need help.
I actually liked the experiment (20 yrs ago? 25 ?) that refs had to call 1 guy or the other if the score stayed 0-0 through the 1st period. Refs hated being forced to choose. Int'l ref are used to the concept.
0-0 is one thing but no shots at all in 3:00 is flat out inexcusable

40 years, I think. I remember seeing it when I was in grad school, '78-'80.
Time flies when you're having fun.
