Handicapping Oklahoma State Dual

Post by Oracle » Tue Jan 18, 2022 2:37 pm

Okla State has all 10 ranked Intermat top 30, with 6 in the top 10 lead by #1 returning and defending National champ Ferrari and #2 and 2X national runner-up Daton Fix. Lehigh counters with 5 ranked top 30 with Jordan Wood #7 and Josh Humphreys #8 leading the way. IM decided to drop Manzona Bryant from the rankings, which is unusual if only for illness or injury. Does Willy know something we don't?

125: #6 Mastrogiovanni vs #19 Lane -- a chance for Lehigh -- OSU is favored
133: #2 Fix vs #18 Hines -- Fix decked Hines at Nationals last march -- won't happen again and could be entertaining and competitive -- OSU solidly favored
141: #22 Carter vs NR McGonagle -- what's in common is being dominated by Kazimir last weekend -- toss up
149: #14 Gfeller vs ???? Maybe Hoffman. OSU favored [no word on Manzona]
157: #13 Sheets vs #8 Humphreys -- lopsided score last time but Sheets dominated 3rd period -- Lehigh favored
165: #5 Wittake vs #24 Meyer -- OSO is favored
174: #8 Plott vs NR Logan -- Plott edged Fine 4-3 -- could be interesting -- OSU favored
184: #10 Geer vs NR Burkhart -- too much expereince -- OSU favored
197: #1 Ferrari vs NR Davis -- OSU solidly favored
285: #30 vs #7 Wood -- Lehigh solidly favored

Should be a competitive dual. Okla State generally gets after it and doesn't stall, push or shove. Hopefully entertaining for the fans.

Lehigh should win 2 with 'opportunities' at several (125, 141, 149, 165, 174) weights. Not sure who may be hurt/out on either team. Outcome for LU really depends who shows up to wrestle.
Will be attending with my brother Pete.

Interesting situation at 149.

Bryant's been out quite a while and it's been reported that he was seen limping last weekend.

Hoffman looked awful in his last bout and was presumably injured. Hasn't wrestled since. Storm and Watkins have filled in but they don't seem to be the answer. Brignola is redshirting and has done very well in tournaments.

Bump up Moran? He wasn’t an oversized 141 so that probably wouldn’t work.

MH could conceivably have a year of eligibility left but the 75lb cut by then prob a bridge too far.

Bumping up Munch is the other possibility.

It looks like OkSU victory over Columbia was their 498th at home. at least no possibility of us being 500.

So 500 likely Northern Iowa. If They had found a neutral site near Morgantown, for the Columbia dual, 500 would be IoSU. (Just assuming OkSU, for rhetorical purposes, likely to win all of these 3.)
