2023 Schedule
Re: 2023 Schedule
Have we ever faced Sacred Heart before? Every conference team should face every conference opponent, if not every year, then semi-regularly. Even it means Quad meets on a Sunday with LIU, F&M and SHU.
Re: 2023 Schedule
Agree with Oracle. Maybe one home, one away each decade.
I think the last meet vs F+M was about 6 years ago. almost all starters. Randy C lost to Durso. And Somers lost at 133.
We were at F+M in 2001 that was pretty ubly but we had some pretty good backups in the lineup.
A couple at home in between

Re: 2023 Schedule
Sorry, more than once in 10 years. If you are in a conference, you do your part. Otherwise, it's a joke. Might as well dis-invite them. If Iowa State can schedule their Little Sisters of the Poor early in their season, so can we.
Re: 2023 Schedule
Yes, only one sub used for F&M six plus years ago; it's possible a few more vs S.Heart depending on coach discretion for qualifier reasons - which is a reason we don't stock on little sisters; unclear how some of the top schools pull that off.
Re: 2023 Schedule
in 10 years once home, once away. That is once every 5 years. at a minimum.
6 EIWA Teams we need to Wrestle every Year, Cornell, Penn, Princeton, AWP, Navy, Bucknell. (Bucknell considers us their top rival in all sports save water polo, we need to give them courtesy of wrestling every year). 10 others, do we wrestle say 5 every year? Bear in mind we normally wrestle Drexel 5-6 times a year as we normally wrestle them when we go to Penn. A cheap meet. American and Bing U, (with Navy and Cornell) are easy weekends, Probably practical one day events. So then There is F&M, and three Obvious pairs: Brown, Harvard; LIU, Hofstra, Columbia, SHU. (Columbia and SHU are 1.5 hours apart per Mapquest.
It is good to calmly think about a problem, not to just lash out in anger.

Re: 2023 Schedule
No, we've never faced SH before. I think every other year is a bit ambitious. Every third year? Fourth?
Some historical reference. Last year we faced Binghamton, Cornell, Columbia, Navy, Army, Bucknell, Penn & Princeton.
Other EIWA opponents and last season wrestled:
LIU: 2020-1
American: 2019-20
Drexel: 2017-8
F&M: 2015-6
Hofstra, Brown, Harvard: 2014-5
Note: I didn't distinguish home and away. Assume we wouldn't play the "we'll only wrestle you In Bethlehem" card.

Agree. Although we did that 13 straight home duals w/Cornell 1974-1990.
The streak ended when they got good enough to beat us in '90.

Re: 2023 Schedule
I think a lot of the Cornell duals in that streak were week nights. I guess they were willing to travel then and we weren't. A lot of F&M, Princeton, Wilkes matches, home and away were weeknights. They, along with Penn, Drexel, Rider, and maybe Rutgers, are within 1.5 hours
1.5 hours is also a good limit as to how far a team might want to drive when wrestling at two locations in one day, Saturday or Sunday. Thus the pairs I mentioned: LIU-Hofstra; Harvard-Brown; Columbia-SHU.
