Thanks, Gimp, saw the LU post this afternoon.

A few of the entries at the weights registered for are interesting. Of course, things could change between now and next fall. But, per Mookie’s post on Tate Samuelson's transfer, “nobody’s job is safe” seems about right. A few thoughts:

McGonagle at 61 Kg = 134.5 lbs. Lots of talk since last season about him moving down in weight if not muscling up considerably; looks like moving down is in the works. Likely lots of competition at 133 if Brandon and Malyke are there.

Manzona at 74 Kg = 163.1 lbs. As speculated, he may have trouble maintaining 149 and can’t win at 157 with Josh there. Looks primed for 165 this coming year, battling it out with Meyer and Herceg (unless Herceg moves up to 174, which is 79 Kg, where he is registered for U23).

Lawrence at 79 Kg = 174.2 lbs. Lots of speculation that he would move up from 165; looks like that is happening. Competition with Logan unless Logan moves down, or maybe Herceg.

AJ Burkhart at 86 Kg = 189.6 lbs. Not sure of his current walking-around weight, but he was small for 184 last season. There was talk of him bulking up and we know he is into weight lifting, but there were also comments that 174 would be a better fit. Looks like he may be shooting for 184. Good potential competition with incoming Tate Samuelson. Seems increasingly likely that incoming Frosh Rogers moves down here (registered for U20 at 86 Kg = 189.6 lbs) and redshirts this year.

JT Davis is registered at 92 Kg = 202.8 lbs. He was small for 197 last season (moving up for the team to fill a gap) and many posters thought he might move down to 184 for next season, but maybe he is bulking up and shooting to be in the mix for 197?

>>>He told me he tore it.

... I guess the same night I talked with him, but he agreed with me that it was "the best of the 3 ligaments" that he could have torn - which isn't the ACL, but rather the MCL. I thought he said "partial tear" but didn't tape record it.
... I find it amazing that he could specify "3 mo rehab" and be competing right on schedule.

At EIWAs Pat told me that Seymour would be out for two months.

Figueroa 6-10 -- was in it till the end
Gonzalez 15-8 -- who had just lost to Cooper Flynn (2nd placer) 5-4
Jesuroga 1-2 -- unusual to see such a low scoring bout with Seymour.

JT Davis took 4th, looked pretty good and seemed to have bulked up a little, holding his own and not getting pushed around much. He lost to Andrew Davison (IL) in the quarters, 8-6 and then again in the 3rd place bout, 10-0. Davis finished ahead of a couple of other good wrestlers, including Austin Cooley and Robert Striggow.

I thought McGonagle also looked pretty good, stronger and big enough at the lower weight, was taking shots. Didn’t place but made it to quarters, losing to Dylan Shawver 12- 8; was ahead with 30 sec left, but gave up a takedown and turn. Then lost to Colaiocco of Penn in the consis.

Incoming Caden Rogers took 4th in U20, losing to Take Picko of OK (3 seed) in the quarters, then beating 1 seed Del Signore (NCState), 7 seed Voelker, and 5 seed Haas in the consis.

Caden placed 3rd via cons finals 6-4 win vs Askren WC's Clayton Whiting, after beating him, 9-8, in another barn burner. Rogers continues to impress

Sheldon's top measuring stick seems like his 15-8 win vs. Ohio State fr, Andre Gonzalez, who was CA 1 and 19-4 at 133 in this redshirting fr year. He placed 2nd at last month's U20 U.S. Open. Gonzalez was ranked #39 as sr in '21
