Brown has New Head Coach
Re: Brown has New Head Coach
Excellent choice. Will be interesting to see how long he lasts, after experiencing the vast difference in admin support for wrestling, BU vs. CU.
I lean toward five years.

Graduate of an Ivy. NCAA champ. Paid his dues as an assistant.
All adds up to a nice hire for Brown.

I agree that it's a nice hire, but unless Leen gets more to work with than Beckerman ever did, it's not going to make a big difference.

Recruiting. Perhaps a more energetic guy will attract better talent? We'll see.
Re: Brown has New Head Coach
I guess you're both right ....Brown has essentially ranked last in Ivy EIWA places since 2008 -- avg 12th with just 1 place higher than 10, an 8th -- after an extremely solid run from 1988-2004, with avg place of 5.4 after re-joining the league in '85.
Renewed school support has to come from somewhere up high -- trustees or president - but it won't rely solely on Leen's recruiting ability. Key word: recruiting exceptions. Uh ohh: Christina Paxson has served as Brown's 19th president and professor of economics and public policy since July 1, 2012. Came from American U, then Princeton
Unclear about AD: Grace Calhoun, new (actually VP, Athletics) at Brown in April after a successful 7 years as Penn AD graduated from Brown '92; competed in track. Former employers: Loyola U Chicago; Indiana Univ; Dartmouth; U of Florida; St. Francis U.
Not exactly wrestling-rich backgrounds above, like Cornell hiring back-to-back presidents from Iowa U.
Good luck, Jordan; you may need it.

Re: Brown has New Head Coach
I spoke with an EIWA head coach (not Lehigh or an Ivy) after Beckerman's departure and we agreed that the incoming coach will be asking for all the stuff that Todd asked for but never got. The bar keeps moving higher; if Lehigh operated the same way as in the good old days, we'd be battling with Brown for 12th every year.
