Someone please explain why anyone would even verbally commit before after their state tournament junior year. Freshman and sophomores? Really?
It seems nothing positive comes of real early verbals. A few years back, Adam Busiello, a multiple time NY state champ verbally committed to PSU as a freshman. Things changed. Now we have Mason Gibson verbal to Cornell. His brother Erik has committed to CU so maybe that's the reason. IMO, it's a silly, even bad rule. By March 15th, all high school state tournaments are over. Signing can start for a junior at that point.
Injuries, over-recruiting, talent that won at light weights doesn't always translate when they get bigger. What's the rush? If it's about not wanting to be bothered by recruiters -- hey, they should enjoy the attention. Or don't pick-up the phone. There's a lot you can learn as a young man about communicating in these situations.
Early Commitment Trend
Re: Early Commitment Trend
Pretty sure there was a major 8th grade commit in Fball or Bktballa couple of.months ago.

When you consider Kerklviet's path (MN-OkSt-OhSt-PSU) I agree it's a bad policy.
The simplest answer is that family's like it as an attempt to escape the torrential downpour of recruiting contacts top recruits endure.
Until, of course, they change their minds - with the most frequent influence a school overrecruiting their weight.
Lately (I'm sure) a better cash offer.
