That was against a PSU team that won NCAAs by 40 points and had nine of their tournament starters in the lineup, while we were missing three of our veterans. Also was wrapped around 23-19 and 23-10 losses, duals that were far more competitive.

In 2002 we beat the Lions 32-6, winning nine bouts. I guess Penn State should have dropped us from their schedule since we outclassed them so badly.

FWIW, Cael has coached Penn State for 13 seasons and his dual record is 171-16-2. Just seven teams have beaten the Lions during that period: Iowa 5x, Minnesota 4x, Oklahoma State 2x, Ohio State 2x, Oklahoma once, Arizona State once, Lehigh once. If all the teams that were outclassed or had been shut out once by PS refused to wrestle them again, they wouldn't have much of a schedule.

**** The field is no longer level, especially with the NIL Bonus $ available. Unless Lehigh chooses to become part of the NIL on a full time basis, wrestling PSU or other B1G teams that unfairly supplement wrestlers with bonuses is just stupid. We can see wrestlers from those teams in tournaments. No Thanks.

2002.....come on man, that's 20 years ago.....I may or may not have still been listening to cassette tapes, although had probably moved on to CD's, Blockbuster video was all the rage.....I believe Itunes and Napster were just starting up around 2001.......

Cael Sanderson was still college wrestling.......things change, maybe it will eventually change again, but why in the heck do we want to keep getting our ass kicked in the current NIL environment, what good does it do US? Certainly doesn't help us keep our place in the sport.....if it's money ok, just say that is what it is......just like the golfers going to the LIV tour spouting all these stupid excuses, just say "it's the money", I would at least then respect the honesty of their answer even if I didn't particularly like it......

Agree.

I understand the emotional reaction, but these guys are missing the point and even making up answers to things that weren't posted. Not that 'that' ever happens around here! ;)

Oracle (and others) - I hear what you're saying. Bit I REALLY LIKE seeing Penn State wrestle. Even if we get our asses handed to us. Who doesn't want to see a team that good, with that many great wrestlers, in action? And if we can pull out a couple of wins, so much the better.

Just my opinion.

No question that NIL is going to change the ball game but until such time as the NCAA creates two divisions like football FBS & FCS we need to keep our tradition. This will inevitably occur over the next 5 years as money sep as rates the pack.

Once we step back to WCS, we still should step up in class for a few matches a year just like other Patriot League schools do for a money games (not Lehigh).

The question is whether the WBS NCAA tournament will permit certain WCS qualifying wrestlers to become individual national champions?

you realize we are just saying we shouldn't bother scheduling Penn State right? Not that we shouldn't wrestle D1, there is a valley, next to some plains, with a couple oceans in between those two ideas..........I would say out of the approximately 78 D1 wrestling programs there are maybe 2 programs we should basically not go out of our way to schedule ....wrestle them at Midlands, Scuffle whatever but why schedule them in a dual? Also I can watch Penn State guys wrestle pretty much in the finals or semi's of every tourney they wrestle, I don't need to see them demolish us just to get a glimpse......
