IM has released NCAA D1 Rankings

Post by Oracle » Thu Jun 23, 2022 3:22 pm

For Lehigh, they still show Jaret Lane at 125....maybe a place holder. They do show McGonagle at 133 and Hines at 141 (switched weights), Bryant #19 at 149. Still showing Meyer 165 and Logan 174, but now Samuelson at 184 and Beard at 197.

David Carr and Quincy Monday both moving up to 165. A few other surprises. Nice job.

Somewhat surprised to still see Vito ranked at 125 as indications seem to be he will be going 133......Humphreys at 9 seems a bit under ranked but at some point he will need to prove that......he is just ahead of Zapf.......Edmund Ruth starting right out at 17th at 174 a bit surprising..........Caffey at 15th seems odd, capable of beating just about anyone, but does have some bad losses........nice to see Taylor starting season ranked at Heavy, shows he's put some people on notice......

IM makes every effort to rank returning NCAA place winners, in order, if possible. That explains why Robb is ranked ahead of Humphreys even though our guy beat him at NCAAs. They have to make adjustments when guys like Spencer Lee resurface...or guys move up or down....but the formula is basic.

IM probably could not confirm Vito moving up so they left him.

Lehigh with ranked wrestlers at all weights. Nice.

Despite that, no tournament ranking and only #21 dual ranking

Well, you gotta be placed somewhere at the starting line.
Where the Hawkineers will land, is entirely in their hands (of course.) ;)

A better dual and tournament team in 2023.
No projected All-Americans. 157 and 197 most promising.
Some weights till uncertain to whom will emerge.

I enjoy seeing the grad transfers. It exposes a kid from the west like Samuleson to the Lehigh experience, even if for a year. Seems he was an outstanding economics major at Wyoming. Will he do a MS-Econ at Lehigh or something else?

Beard was a top tier talent at Malvern Prep. He is someone who could potentially be an NCAA finalist. With Garcia, Samuelson and Rey and Kerry McCoy around, Beard should continue to develop what Penn State gave him. Beard in room could also bring some of the training style of Cael into the room also, ie the ankle pick and less funk. High quality transfers I see as beneficial for shaking things up, but they still have to win their spots.

It should be a much better experience for Lehigh Wrestling next year.

Top 15 as a dual meet team should be achievable.

PSU, Iowa, Okla State, Missouri, Ohio State, Michigan, Arizona State, VA Tech, NS State, Cornell. Then's there: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa State Nebraska. That's 14. Oh and UPenn walloped us last year.

You may not realize it, but you set the bar so high there is just no place to feel successful if top 10 is not achieved. Rah, rah all you want but top 15 would be outstanding.
