Quality of the Room

Post by Oracle » Tue Sep 13, 2022 10:59 am

Knocking heads with other high octane guys is the #1 way to improve. After many years of being close, suffering debilitating injuries and so forth, Lehigh has a high quality room. Makes it harder for rivals to knock us.

Teams tend to take on the personality of their coach. Iowa being hard-nosed, PSU technically superior, Cornell really tough mat wrestlers, etc. Lehigh's known for being very capable and nice. They'll give you a good contest but won't ruffle any feathers.

Well, that's pretty general and may be true for those teams you mentioned but I tend to disagree with your comments about Lehigh.

Ask Kaleb Young if Josh Humphreys ruffled any feathers when they met in Florida. Young was pinned and it wasn't called. It should have been because it would have spared him from being cranked over a second time at the end. Humphreys beat the living crap out a guy he had lost to early in his career.

When the talent level rises, more beatings are given out. IMO, nothing to do with the personality of the coach.

And you also saw Nelson Brands get up in Jake Logan's grill without much response. The point being Lehigh is seen as being gentlemanly.

Mook this is a bunch of happy horseshit. Maybe you’d prefer if they were a raging pack of assholes like we’ve seen over the years at some other programs. Maybe you’d also like to see how gentlemanly you’re treated by talking a little smack right before putting your toe on the center circle and having the ref blow the whistle.

Using Iowa as a barometer is kind of funny. The most unsportsmanlike team out there. Jordan Wood beats Cassioppi in SD at nationals and walks over to shake with coaches -- they are long gone. Nelson Brands actions at the end of that bout were childish. Logan could have responded, but the bout was over and he lost -- why expect him to react at that point? Grasping at straws my friend.

lol ... you'd hate too to envision the thickness of mookie's straws he's been sucking on, if we hadn't won the last 3 duals w/CU and 3 of the last 4 Easterns they entered. C'mon, man !

Accurate character assessment by Mookie per Iowa, Penn State, and fair observation of Lehigh as being "gentlemanly",..however it must be pointed out the animated Lehigh BENCH when the occasion arises, and Humphrey's excruciating legs-in/power-half which is anything but gentlemanly! Love Pat's positive demeanor when analyzing a Lehigh performance, and his constructive criticism after a loss, as he always seems to have the big-picture in mind. His intensity burns, but unlike the Brands brothers, he doesn't wear it on his sleeve. Also notable is the even-keel of his grapplers whom seem to get neither too high/low. IMO the word CLASSY best describes Lehigh Wrestling, on/off the mat, and Pat in particular,.. as he warrants serious consideration for cover of GQ Magazine ;)

Do we really need to shake hands with every coach in the building?

I'm w/mookie (for once) on this one. I don't recall when approaching a rival bench became a good idea but am quite sure Leeman would have turned to hug 1 of his own rather than, well, never mind ....
