Helen was an original. Grotto also. Theresa's on Filmore Street. Old school Eastern European folk.

I can only guess Helen's was too greasy spoon for mookie's presence there. Otherwise, he'd chastise me for risking my life eating lunch there 2-3x/week in the '70's- usually 3 eggs + bacon - which she'd insist had to be 6 slices. Always.
I'd ask "how much," she'd say "a dollar" and I made sure to hide 2 bucks under the plate & skedaddle, if she saw it first I'd get called "a horses ass." The renowned site for Mark Lieberman's SI feature, 1 of three 4-page wrestler features ever in Sports Illustrated (Dan Hodge, Mark, Cael Sanderson)

After I began underwriting Property and Causality insurance I realized how terrifyingly dangerous the Grotto was, with the kitchen and its inherent fire risk between the dining room and the only real exit. So I only ate there 2-3 times a year on returns to campus.
Good food, great atmosphere.

Only went there (Allentown one near Muhlenburg) as my daughter lives 100 yards from there and needed a quick fix. Agree nothing to blog about (though I guess I technically did…rogies were better than dogs) though they were not burnt and shriveled. Still hit the spotikeremix wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 10:39 amWell put Legger. I can't agree enough - Potts in Bethlehem is the place for doggies in the Valley. Chili cheese doggies all dayyyy. Alex Iacocca (LU Wrestler & from that Iacocca Family) was a fraternity brother of mine - & Alex's family owned Yoccos. I would make sure to bring him back a chili cheese dog every time i went to Potts....
